Abingdon Theatre Company just celebrated its 2015-2016 Season with ABINGDON: REFLECTIONS OF STARLIGHT, last night, October 26 at Espace (635 West 42nd Street in Manhattan). Richard Jay-Alexander, best known for directing Barbra Streisand and other artists in concert, directed the event, honoring Tony Award-winning costume designer Jane Greenwood, who designed Abingdon's acclaimed production of Hellman v. McCarthy; Abingdon Theatre Company's Vice Chair and former Managing Director, Heather Henderson; and one of New York's most prominent lawyers in entertainment, Mark Sendroff.

Abingdon Theatre Company celebrates its 2015-2016 Season with ABINGDON: REFLECTIONS OF STARLIGHT, its annual benefit gala and dinner, tonight, October 26 at Espace (635 West 42nd Street in Manhattan). Richard Jay-Alexander, best known for directing Barbra Streisand and other artists in concert, is set to direct the event, which begins at 6:00pm.

In the opening concert of Michael Feinstein's Standard Time Series at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall it was all about the lyrics of Johnny Mercer. Mr. Feinstein who is the Artistic Director of Standard Time had as his Special Guest Marilyn Maye, who of course is 'Just To Marvelous For Words'. Tedd Firth was on piano along with Sean Smith , Bass and Mark McLean, drums. As in most of these concerts this Standard Time with Michael Feinstein was sold out and Broadwayworld was there to take you inside.

Rick Murray and The Crown & Anchor presented Tony and Golden Globe winner Linda Lavin to a wildly enthusiastic Provincetown audience last night and Broadwayworld's Stephen Sorokoff was there. In her cabaret show titled Starting Over, Linda with her musical directer Billy Stritch (who also supplied vocals) brought the packed Crown and Anchor Cabaret Room to it's feet many times during their exciting performance. Also receiving a standing ovation was Jazz Violinist Aaron Weinstein who is a mainstay in Linda's act. Jazz guitarist Ron Affif, bassist Steve Doyle and husband Steve Bakunas on drums and vocals executed Billy Stritch's magical arrangements perfectly.

Music Theatre International Chairman and CEO Freddie Gershon and his wife Myrna hosted eight outstanding educators from schools and performing arts centers around the country for four days of classes and activities honoring them for working to make a difference for their students and communities through the process of staging musical theatre productions in their schools and educational theatre groups. The event known as the 6th Annual FREDDIE G FELLOWSHIP culminated in a gala dinner at Chez Josephine on July 11th. Marilyn Maye was an audience member at Ann Hampton Callaway's final performance of her show 'On My Way To You' at 54 Below last night and Broadwayworld was there. Marilyn joined Ann for some spontaneous improvising and signing as did sister Liz Callaway who was also in the house. 'On My Way To You' just completed a sold out run.

Show business' brightest stars memorialized one of their own yesterday, at A Tribute to Polly Bergen, at the American Airlines Theatre (227 W. 42nd Street). An Emmy Award-winning actress and singer, Ms. Bergen's career spanned more than six decades in films, TV, Broadway musicals and concerts. She passed away from natural causes September 20 at age 84. A Tribute to Polly Bergen, produced by Rex Reed and Michael Alden with creative consultant Deborah Grace Winer, celebrated her life and career with a star studded lineup of participants. They included Christine Andreas, Harry Belafonte, Arlene Dahl, Raul Esparza, Michael Feinstein, Gregory Harrison, Judith Ivey, Chris Matthews, Phyllis Newman, Kelli O'Hara and cast members from the 2001 revival of Follies.

Marilyn doesn't have to sing "I Love Being Here With You" in New York City anymore. She always would motion for a response after the lyric "I wanna hear you call my name" and the audience would always shout out MARILYN. That song was not in her show. There's no need for MM to ask for recognition in this town. If you don't know that MARILYN means Marilyn Maye you are not a New Yorker. Personally, if I ask someone "when are you seeing Marilyn" and then get a confused look, I immediately know I'm talking to someone who doesn't get it.
