Isabelle Georges' Broadway concert at the Bal Blomet and Oh là là ! at La Nouvelle Eve

Following sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall, historian and narrator John Monsky brings his groundbreaking American History Unbound series to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Opera House with The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m.

The original “Dainty June” in the 1959 Broadway production of Gypsy is presenting a cabaret program of classic French compositions in her new show, MON HISTOIRE EN CHANSONS FRANCAISES.

During the opening number, the Troubadour Theatre Company, affectionately known to all as the Troubies, comment how thrilled the troupe, and the audience by extension, is to have returned to live theatre. The audience responded with glorious applause, and both the occasion and the Troubies deserve that adulation. The Troubies, who have rocked Los Angeles for the last 25 years, are one of the most creative teams in the city. Their imagination and gumption has entertained with parodies of classical works infused with a musical motif such as Alice In One-Hit Wonderland, Much ADoobie Brothers About Nothing, and A Charlie James Brown Christmas. Their latest, Lizastrata, based on both the Greek Aristophanes comedy Lysistrata and the songs made popular by Liza Minnelli, could have been a dazzler, but with a gossamer plot, too many recycled jokes, and a venue ill-equipped to allow the cast to sing with heft, the latest production is uninspired.

As Carnegie Hall prepares to kick off its much-anticipated 2021–2022 season, the Hall today announced new concert offerings that have been added to its schedule. These events are part of the Hall’s 2021–2022 season line-up that includes more than 100 performances presented on the Hall’s three stages and across New York City.

The Bard Music Festival continues its intensive exploration of “Nadia Boulanger and Her World” through the prism of her life and career. 

If you need any convincing that a “simple” recital, with lots of breaks, isn’t easier for the performer than being in a full-fledged opera, you have only to look as far as Bulgarian soprano’ Sonya Yoncheva's concert--shown live from Germany on February 27 but still available on-demand from the Met’s website until March 12--to know that view is a fallacy. (And, of course, it’s a challenge for the accompanist as well, here, the well-schooled pianist Julien Quentin, who offered staunch support.)

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva will perform a live concert from the Schussenried Cloister in southwest Germany as part of the Met Stars Live in Concert series. The program features a tour-de-force of arias from Verdi’s Aida and Il Trovatore; Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, La Bohème, and the rarely performed Le Villi; Dvořák’s Rusalka; and Handel’s Rinaldo.

Soprano Sonya Yoncheva will perform a live concert on Saturday, November 28 at 7:00pm CET/1:00pm ET, from the Schussenried Cloister in southwest Germany as part of the Met Stars Live in Concert series.

Lane Bradbury may have been born and raised as a Southern Belle in Georgia, and performed on Broadway, in films, and on television, but there's a Parisian chanteuse in her soul. Karen Akers' ardent 'Francophilia--- and I don't care whether or not it's a real word' was seeded in adolescence and brought to bloom by living in France, becoming fluent in the language, and absorbing European sensibilities (reincarnation is also a distinct possibility). Offering a show of French material is, to the artist, like sharing a part of her soul. Never has this been so clear and affecting as Aker's muscular performance tonight, enriched by maturity and new vocal elasticity. With the formidable Alex Rybeck acting as musical director/pianist and emotional collaborator, the evening soared.

The brainchild of Metropolitan Room managing partner Bernie Furshpan, his General Manager Joseph Macchia, and Cabaret Scenes Magazine Publisher Peter Leavy, New York's first International Cabaret Festival (February 17-21) debuted Wednesday night at the Met Room with performances and inductions into the newly established Cabaret Hall of Fame (an actual location for Hall and its memorabilia to be determined at a later date). Clubs hosting this year's festival include The Metropolitan Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, Feinstein's/54 Below, Iridium, Joe's Pub, and Stage 72 (formerly The Triad).

Marguerite Monnot's music and Andre Popp's orchestrations provide a rare and succulent taste of 1950s Parisian authenticity.
