Doctorow's 1975 novel was brought to life by the musical writing team of Stephen Lafferty and Lynn Ahrens, who had gained some notoriety with their musicals Lucky Stiff and Once on This Island, with an adapted book by Terrence McNally, who had won a Tony award for his work on Love! Valour! Compassion! This powerhouse team helped Ragtime earn 4 Tony Awards.
Last night, TheaterWorksUSA celebrated 57 years with its benefit at The Current at Chelsea Piers hosted by Broadway's James Snyder. Broadway Dreams once again demonstrated the unifying power of the arts when the internationally renowned performing arts education program sent a team of Broadway professionals to Moscow, Russia for the fourth consecutive year. Through a landmark partnership created between the non-profit organization, Broadway Moscow Theatre Company, the U.S. Embassy, and the U.S. Department of State, Broadway Dreams offered their unique brand of Broadway master classes to professional and aspiring Russian musical theater performers of all ages during a ten-day intensive program. The collaboration culminated in two public performances at the MDM Theatre on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

Composer Stephen Flaherty and lyricist Lynn Ahrens are going to hold a meet-the-artist session at Bolshoi Theatre on the 25th of April. They will share their experience in working on a musical score and lyrics. During the session, there will be a workshop for composers where young creators can share their music and get feedback.
