New World Symphony Presents Highlights of 2013-14 Season

The New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), is pleased to share details of our 2013-2014 season. As a research-and-development arm for classical music, the coming season includes a series of commissions, partnerships and events that showcase NWS as a laboratory for generating new ideas about the way music is taught, presented and experienced. Highlights include the commissioning and presentation of new works by emerging and established artists, the development of multi-media collaborative projects, and the continuation of innovative concert formats. These initiatives exist with the goal of developing New World Symphony Fellows, who will advance the field of classical music and become ambassadors for the art forms in their communities and beyond.

New York City Ballet to Open Season with SWAN LAKE; Tickets on Sale Now

New York City Ballet will open its 2013-2014 season on Tuesday, September 17 with six performances of Peter Martins' full-length production of SWAN LAKE. Set to Tschaikovsky's score and featuring sets and costumes by the acclaimed Danish painter Per Kirkeby, the production was last performed by NYCB in the fall of 2011 to sold-out houses.

Boston-Based ODYSSEY OPERA Company to Present Inaugural Season this Fall

ODYSSEY OPERA, a new, Boston-based opera company dedicated to presenting adventurous repertoire, today announced its launch. Founded by Gil Rose, a leader of the classical music scene, Odyssey debuts Sunday, September 15th at Boston's Jordan Hall with an ambitious performance by world-class artists of Wagner's "Rienzi".

Chromolume Theatre Presents LOVE SONGS, A MUSICAL by Steve Cagan, Now thru 7/28

Chromolume Theatre has announced its next production, the world premiere of Love Songs, A Musical with book, music and lyrics by Steven Cagan, and directed by Kay Cole. Featuring orchestrations and arrangements by Doug Walter and music direction by Richard Berent. Opening is set for tonight, June 22 at 8pm. Love Songs will play a limited engagement through July 28 only.

New York City Ballet Presents Fall Gala - Three World Premieres, Costumes by Iris van Herpen, Prabal Gurung & More, 9/19

New York City Ballet's annual Fall Gala will celebrate dance and fashion with three world premiere ballets, and costumes designed by some of the fashion world's most exciting talents. The one-time-only gala evening will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2013, and this year's participants include choreographers Benjamin Millepied, in collaboration with the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen; Justin Peck, who will create a new ballet featuring costumes by the acclaimed New York-based fashion designer Prabal Gurung; and Angelin Preljocaj, who will work with Olivier Theyskens, the Belgian-born designer who is the Artistic Director of the American fashion house Theory.

Celebrated guitarist Jason Vieaux will perform two concerts in the New York area tonight, May 3 at 8pm presented by the New York City Classical Guitar Society at Baruch Performing Arts Center (55 Lexington Avenue, NYC) and on Sunday, May 5 at 3pm presented by New Jersey City University in Ingalls Recital Hall (2039 Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ).

The Company will commence its 50 year celebration this July with a tour to London, England where they will perform at the London Coliseum. In a sweeping gesture of gratitude to its home city, Boston Ballet will present the first-ever Night of Stars gala on Boston Common - a free performance for the greater-Boston community. Programming includes an astounding range of works, featuring stunning classics La Bayadere and Cinderella, two cutting-edge repertory programs containing American and world premieres, and Balanchine's masterpiece, Jewels. Bringing the season to a triumphant close, Boston Ballet will tour to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and end with performances at the Koch Theater in New York City's Lincoln Center.

American Composers Orchestra Continues COLABORATORY: PLAYING IT UNSAFE Initiative, Now thru 4/5

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) continues its season-long initiative, coLABoratory: Playing It UNsafe, the first and only professional research and development lab to support the creation of cutting-edge new American orchestral music through no-holds-barred experimentation, encouraging composers to do anything but 'play it safe.' Audiences will have the opportunity to see and hear the composers' works-in-progress at free lab workshops today, March 5, 2013 at 10am at Flushing Town Hall (137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing, NY), and Today, April 2, 2013 at 2pm at The DiMenna Center (450 W. 37th St., NYC). coLABoratory culminates on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 7:30pm with a concert featuring all of the new works at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, conducted by ACO Music Director George Manahan.
