Thomas W. Morris, artistic director of the Ojai Music Festival and Ojai's 2009 music director eighth blackbird have announced the final programming for the 2009 Ojai Music Festival, which takes place from Thursday, June 11 to Sunday, June 14, 2009. This season, the four-day Festival, which for six decades has become well known for its fearlessness in championing pioneering musical ideas and personalities, pushes the envelope again with programming that reflects the qualities that have made eighth blackbird a growing musical phenomenon-genre-defying variety in wildly collaborative and visually dramatic presentations.
The Robert and Carol Morris Center for 21st Century Music announces the launch of a new website, http://www.music21c.org. The site will highlight upcoming and recent activities of the Center, and make accessible materials from the Center's past two seasons. These will include items relating to the Center's internationally renowned June in Buffalo festival; its distinguished resident ensemble, the Slee Sinfonietta; and its lively and informative Wednesday Seminar Series.

Composer Lukas Foss, died in his New York home this Sunday. He was 86.
His early works are neoclassical in style, using controlled improvisation and chance procedures with the twelve tone technique.
Some of his works are Piano Concerto Number 1, String Quartet Number 1, and the operas The Jumping Frogs Of Calaveras County and Griffelkin.
Foss was a professor of music at The University Of California and founded the Improvisational Chamber Ensemble. He later taught music and theory at Boston College.
New York City Opera will present a series of concerts, showcases, discussions, screenings, and master classes in 2008-09, designed to bring the company's unique brand of music-making and cultural conversation to all five boroughs of New York City while renovations take place at its home, the New York State Theater.
