A celebration of books, reading and writing for the whole family, the first annual Arvada Center Book Fest takes place at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities on May 19 from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. Designed as an event for all ages, the Book Fest includes hands-on activities and storytime for kids, panel discussions and staged readings, an all-day exhibit hall, writing workshops, and a special keynote speaker. The Arvada Center is located at 6901 Wadsworth Blvd. and provides free parking at the venue. The presenting sponsor of the Arvada Center Book Fest is Regis University's MFA in Creative Writing program.   (more...)

Museum of the Moving Image pays tribute to the legacy of filmmaking in Astoria with an exhibition that traces the history of the Astoria studio, a local landmark with deep roots in the culture of New York City. Lights, Camera, Astoria!, on view from today, October 26, 2013, through February 9, 2014, explores each phase of the site from its start as Paramount Pictures's East Coast production facility in the 1920s, a center for independent filmmaking in the 1930s, the U.S. Army Pictorial Center from World War II into the Cold War, the site's rebirth in the late 1970s, to the present day Kaufman Astoria Studios, a thriving motion picture and television studio, and a vibrant cultural hub that includes Museum of the Moving Image, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and restaurants and cafes. The exhibition Edward Steichen and Art Deco Fashion will feature over 200 of Steichen's original vintage photographs, drawn from the vast Condé Nast Archive through the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography, alongside more than forty stunning Art Deco fashion garments and accessories that showcase the glamour and modernity of the period.
