ELF, a holiday themed musical, first opened on Broadway in 2010. With the 2003 motion picture of the same title starring Will Ferrell as source material, theatergoers all over were interested in the sugarcoated musical. Negative reviews lead to a re-tooling of the show, and it returned to Broadway in 2012 in addition to having a mini tour of the US. Now, in 2013, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is bringing the confection to Houston audiences with a locally produced production of the saccharine holiday confection that is rather donuts for dinner.

A CHORUS LINE, inspired by the real stories of several Broadway dancers, first opened on Broadway on July 25, 1975. It ran for an unprecedented 6,137 performances and held the distinction of being the longest running Broadway musical until it was surpassed by Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS. It is currently the sixth longest running Broadway musical. In addition to taking New York by storm, the musical won the celebrated Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1976. The musical has truly left an indelible mark in the history of musical theatre. Having grown up on Monty Python reruns and films, it doesn't take a lot to get me excited about seeing a production of Monty Python's SPAMALOT. The hilarious hit musical is making a gloriously triumphant return to Houston in its first locally produced performance at Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS). The First National Tour enjoyed a four week run in the summer of 2007 that was co-produced by Broadway Across America - Houston and TUTS, and because of popular demand TUTS decided to produce the show again.

As presented in its current iteration, the current national tour of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, for the most part, remains a genuinely entertaining enterprise--a cheeky farce filled with super silly situations, wildly outrageous characters, a witty book by Harvey Fierstein, and a memorable Jerry Herman score. But fairly enjoyable as it is, it lacks a bit of the glitz and glamour one has come to expect. Luckily, it's got a powerhouse star in Christopher Sieber that makes the show absolutely worth seeing. The Tony-winning revival continues at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through August 5.
After a much anticipated west coast arrival, the U.S. National Tour of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES presented by Broadway LA at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood officially opened Wednesday, July 11, 2012. And, Los Angeles BroadwayWorld TV Correspondent Michael Sterling and Producer Jerry Evans were on hand to get up close and personal with the show's two stars... veteran film and television star George Hamilton andtwo-time Tony Award® nominee and Broadway veteran Christopher Sieber. Go on the red carpet of the big opening below!
