The Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) announces the creation of the BAC Artivism Fellowship to support artist activists using their tools to have an impact on the world around them. The Fellowship will provide financial support, mentorship, networking opportunities and education workshops.

Ascención: Celebrating The Movement Toward Liberation Next Wednesday At Judson Memorial Church

Poetic Theater Productions, Judson Arts Wednesdays, and The La Paloma Prisoner Project in association with La Lucha Arts presents Ascención: Celebrating the Movement Toward Liberation on Wednesday, November 20th at Judson Memorial Church located at 55 Washington Square S. This special one night only showcase will highlight the work of women artists of color devoted to advocating for and developing work around decarceration, liberation, and reclamation. With a particular focus on those who have been targeted or imprisoned for protecting and defending themselves, their rights, and those of other women or their families, Ascención will create a space for activism, healing, and embracing a destiny of liberation. The program will begin with a free community meal at 7:15pm, provided by Judson Arts Wednesdays and cooked by their volunteer corps. The event will begin at 8pm and is free to the public. Ticket reservations can be made in advance through Eventbrite.

The penultimate award show leading up to the Tony Awards is the Drama Desk Awards. It is a celebration of both Broadway and Off Broadway theater. In addition to the standard performance prizes for acting, music, sets, writing, and costumes, there are other categories like, Fight Coordinating, Hair and Wigs, Projections, and more. I fortunately got a chance to work the Red Carpet and the Press Room. I love working the Drama Desk Awards, because I get the chance to meet some of the new voices that are making interesting and innovative theater.

Last week I went to the Drama Desk Award Nominations Reception at Green Room 42, here in NYC. This is one of the last few events where you get to meet some of the newest folks doing theater OFF Broadway and On Broadway. You also get a chance to chat to some of the actors who are nominated for this year's Tony Awards, as well.
