Sundance Institute's Theatre Lab kicks off today with the announcement of this year's participating acting company and creative advisors. With an eye towards 2020, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, award-winning pianist Yael Weiss has embarked upon 'A Beethoven Odyssey,' a project that combines the complete set of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas with newly commissioned compositions related to them.
Bradley Smoak, 32 of Cary, NC, won First Prize in the 2017 Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music. Smoak took home $20,000, the largest single prize amount given in the competition's nineteen year history.
