Theatre NOVA, Ann Arbor's only residential professional theatre company, presents "The Legend of Georgia McBride" by Matthew Lopez, the smashing success transferred from The Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale.

He's young, he's broke, his landlord's knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business, walking in heels, and himself.

The production features Nick Yocum, Vince Kelley, Richard Payton, Meredith Deighton, and Joe Bailey and is directed by Brandy Joe Plambeck. The design team includes Stephen Carpenter (scenic design), Vince Kelley (costume design), Michael Ameloot (auxiliary costumes), Brandy Joe Plambeck (sound design), Dan Walker (lighting design) and ALisa Marie Chirco (makeup).

Ann Arbor area audiences can see what Ferndale audiences have been raving about as The Ringwald's highly successful production of Matthew Lopez's "The Legend of Georgia McBride" is transferred to the Theatre NOVA space. "Yes, there are many laughs. But there also are some very serious and poignant moments that, dare I say, might cause the audience to shed an involuntary tear or two?" -EncoreMichigan.com

"The Legend of Georgia McBride" will run June 9 through July 2, 2017 at Theatre NOVA (410 W. Huron, Ann Arbor), a downtown performance space. Show times are 8:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday matinees start at 2:00 p.m. Theatre NOVA features free parking for patrons as well as quick access to the city's restaurants, bars, bakeries, and coffee shops.

Tickets are $20, and Theatre NOVA continues its commitment to make theatre accessible by offering pay-what-you-can tickets for those who need them. Visit TheatreNOVA.org or call 734-635-8450 to purchase tickets, or buy them in person at the box office, which opens one hour before show time.

Theatre NOVA is Ann Arbor's resident professional theatre company. Its mission is to raise awareness of the value and excitement of new plays and playwrights and provide resources for playwrights to develop their craft by importing, exporting, and developing new work.

Matthew Lopez (PLAYWRIGHT) is the author of "The Whipping Man", one of the most celebrated and widely produced new American plays of the last decade. The Manhattan Theatre Club production received Obie, Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle awards including the John Gassner New Play Award. It has since been produced at over 100 U.S. theatres as well as internationally. "The Legend of Georgia McBride" premiered at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and ran off-Broadway at MCC Theatre in a production that received multiple Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle nominations, including Best Play. Other plays include "Somewhere" (Old Globe, world premiere), "Reverberation" (Hartford Stage Company, world premiere), "The Sentinels" (London's Headlong Theatre Company) and "Zoey's Perfect Wedding". Matthew holds commissions from Roundabout Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, South Coast Rep, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Hartford Stage Company, where he recently served as their AETNA New Voices Fellow. For the past two seasons, he has been the Inaugural Playwriting Fellow at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Matthew was a writer on the HBO series "The Newsroom" and has recently adapted Javier Marias' "Your Face Tomorrow" trilogy for the screen as well as the biopic "Dr. Q" for Disney.

BRANDY Joe Plambeck (DIRECTOR) loves bringing glitter and sass and heart to the shows he directs. Originally from Wyoming, Brandy Joe received a BA in Theatre from the University of Northern Colorado. Upon graduating, Brandy Joe traveled the country with a touring theatre company and not only learned the ins and outs of every aspect of theatrical production, but also met his husband, Sterling Heights native Joe Bailey, with whom he and other friends founded The Ringwald Theatre. Recently, Brandy Joe received a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Acting from The Hilberry Theatre at Wayne State.
