Cabrillo Music Theatre celebrates its 20th Anniversary in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza by proudly announcing its 2013-2014 Season of shows, produced exclusively in the Kavli Theatre, at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The 2013-2014 Season, entitled 'Moving Forward, Looking Back,' is Cabrillo's most sizzling season ever. With a combination of classic and contemporary musicals, premieres and returning favorites, every show is gonna burn up the Kavli stage in a season that is just TOO DARN HOT! All of Cabrillo's productions are locally produced, auditioned and rehearsed in Southern California, and performed exclusively in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Today in 2008, In the Heights opened at the Richard Rogers Theatre, where it ran for 1184 performances. In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes. The story explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. The Broadway production was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, winning four: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman). It was also a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

2008 Tony Awards winning musical In The Heights will be translated into Portuguese for its first Brazilian production, directed by Wolf Maya and with recently announced associate director Luis Salgado, adding to his position as choreographer and consultant on the production.

In RITA MORENO: A Memoir (Celebra Hardcover; March 2, 2013, $26.95), Moreno shares her remarkable story for the first time. With candor, humor, and real insight, Moreno opens up about her tumultuous childhood, her career rise from 'utility ethnic' to award-winning star, her explosive romance with Marlon Brando (and less than explosive romance with Elvis Presley), the ups and downs of her relationships and career, and finally finding peace with herself, her 'otherness,' her choices, and her life. Barnes & Noble at 86th and Lexington Avenue will host 'Rita Moreno in Conversation With Lin-Manuel Miranda' today, March 5, 2013. Moreno's book, 'Rita Moreno: A Memoir', will be released the same day.

The celebrated musical RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S Cinderella, originally written for television in 1957 by the legendary musical theatre duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, opened last night, March 3, at the Broadway Theatre. Now in its 15th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook celebrates the best in American singing and songwriting with a new chapter in the Songbook story: 'American Songbook in the Penthouse,' a series of weekend-only performances by performers and composers presented in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, an intimate yet elegant venue that brings artists closer to the audience in a cabaret-style setting. The second weekend of Kaplan Penthouse performances, the sixth week of American Songbook 2013, runs April 5-6, 2013. April 5th belongs to Cristin Milioti, who was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for her lead role in the musical Once.

Superman finds his Lois Lane! Joining Edward Watts (Superman) in the New York City Center Encores! production of It's a Bird…It's a Plane…It's Superman will be Jenny Powers as Lois Lane and David Pittu as the evil Dr. Sedgwick, along with Erich Bergen, Alli Mauzey, James Saito and Will Swenson. Superman will play at City Center for seven performances, March 20 - 24, and will be directed by John Rando with choreography by Joshua Bergasse and music direction by Rob Berman.

Big breaking news, first reported by the New York Times, that Tony-winner Idina Menzel will be returning to Broadway in a new musical, If/Then by NEXT TO NORMAL's Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

The Dramatists Guild of America held their annual awards ceremony last evening at The Lambs Club in New York. The awards ceremony was hosted by Lisa Kron and featured a performance by Kenita Miller. BroadwayWorld has photos from the event below!

With a seating capacity of just 225, the Kaplan Penthouse allows acoustic performers to be heard the way they intend - near to the audience and without elaborate amplification. The size of the space also allows performers to interact with their audience to make them an integral part of their performance, something difficult to do in a larger, more formal venue.
