The hilarious production of the French musical La Cage aux Folles currently plays at the Barn Players in Mission, Kan. The musical based on the play by the same name by Jean Poiret opened on Friday night November 7 and runs through November 23. Kipp Simmons directs the Barn Players production with musical direction by Martha Risser and choreography by Rob Reeder.
Based on the 1973 French play of the same name LA CAGE AUX FOLLES tells the story about the middle-aged homosexual couple who reside in Saint-Tropez, George (played by Roger Storm), the owner of the drag nightclub 'LA CAGE AUX FOLLES' and his partner Albin (played by Mikael Odhag), the performer of the nightclub who goes under the alias of 'Zaza'. Their son, Jean-Michel (Filip Tallham), George's illegitimate offspring from a one night stand is getting married to Anne Dindon, daughter of the conservative leader or 'Tradition, Family and Morality Party'. Therefore, they are forced to take drastic action to hide their sexual orientation in order to meet the family of their son's fiancé...But the question is if they can keep it up?
The hilarious musical La Cage aux Folles, featuring the bawdy humor of Harvey Fierstein and the melodic genius ofJerry Herman, is the final show in the 2014 Music Circus season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 64th season for the venerable Sacramento institution. For those outside of theatrical circles, La Cage Aux Folles might be best known as the basis for the hit movie The Birdcage. While that's all well and good, the musical has been a major force in the theater world since it premiered in 1983, when it won a number of Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show has been revived on Broadway twice and both revivals won a Tony Award for Best Revival. It's the only show to ever win that award twice. On the surface, it seems like the perfect show to end a successful summer at Theater By the Sea in Matunuck.

George Hamilton was intriguing as Georges and Christopher Sieber lit up as Albin/ZaZa. Each actor brought his own personality into the role which made the show even more intimate.
