Established to perform intimate and unique opera performances, Opera180 is launching its 2018 season with the highly interactive production of Bon Operatit. Performing at the Squeezebox Theatre on April 27-29, this exciting event will consist of three parts including composer Lee Hoiby's Bon Appetit based on Julia Child, a cooking demonstration by a local KC chef, and Jennifer Jolley's Krispy Kremes and Butter Queens inspired by the colorful Paula Deen.

Opera Veterans Launch New Performance Company

A group of Kansas City opera professionals has launched a new performance company called Opera180. The new organization was co-founded by local opera production veterans Nate Wheatley and Sadie DeSantis. Organized as a 501(c)3 company, Opera180 was created to introduce the opera genre to Kansas Citians who may not be familiar with opera. In addition, the mission of Opera180 is to provide a performance pipeline for young, aspiring opera performers throughout the region who currently face an opportunity gap between college and only the large companies in major cities.

AOP (American Opera Projects) and Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood have selected six composers and three librettists to receive fellowships for its upcoming ninth season of Composers & the Voice. The 2017-2019 season will train, and present new works from, composers Matthew Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Liliya Ugay, and Amber Vistein and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, and Sokunthary Svay. The primary focus of Composers & the Voice is to give emerging composers and librettists experience working collaboratively with singers on writing for the voice and contemporary opera stage.

The Greensboro Arts Alliance and Residency (GAAR), under the Artistic Direction of Sabra Jones, is proud to announce its 1st Annual Opera Festival as part of the 2017 Summer Season in Vermont. Heidi Lauren Duke choreographs & directs Mezzo-Soprano Martha Prewitt in Lee Hoiby's comedy Bon Appetit!, written about the legendary chef Julia Child, from June 30 - July 5, 2017, at the Town House (20 Church St.)  in Hardwick, Vermont.  The return of opera performance marks a full circle moment for Hardwick's historic Town Hall which was, in fact, built as an opera house in 1898.

Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) members, ages 12 to 18, will present its 22nd Annual Festival Concert on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia. Conducted by Maestra Rosalind Erwin, the musical program will include Lee Hoiby's Overture to a Farce; Claude Debussy's Nuages et Fêtes from Noctunes; and George Gershwin's An American in Paris. The concert will feature the Young Artists Solo Competition winner -- cellist, Danny Bishop, who will perform Camille Saint-Saëns Concerto for Violoncello in A minor.

Symphony Space to Host Two Concerts Benefitting ACLU

Table Pounding Music is proud to present two benefit concerts for the American Civil Liberties Union, produced by Grammy-nominated clarinetist David Krakauer, pianist-composer Kathleen Tagg and Table Pounding Music on Saturday, April 15th at 7:30pm and Sunday, September 24th at 6pm. This all-star group of virtuosic, boundary-pushing New York City musicians share two common attributes: a quest for pushing outside the box in their respective genres, exploring what it means to be a musician from multiple different angles; and a desire to use their artistic voices to raise funds for the protection of civil liberties. One hundred percent of the artist fees will be donated to the ACLU. The concerts will take place at Symphony Space. Please see the lineup and further details below. A selection of tracks will be available to download for purchase and these revenues will also benefit the ACLU.

 American Opera Projects and Nashville Opera are excited to announce the New York premiere of the comic opera triptych Three Way, a playful three-act performance that explores the future of love, sex, and need with a clever balance of humor and drama. Each aptly named act (The Companion, Safe Word, and Masquerade) introduces the audience to a collision of contemporary characters who meet at the intersection of power and desire, revealing true longings of the human heart. The complexity of each character and situation is accentuated by the beguiling and melodic score composed by Robert Paterson, and a witty libretto by David Cote. Three Way is directed by John Hoomes (CEO & Artistic Director, Nashville Opera) conducted by Dean Williamson, and features Eliza Bonet, Melisa Bonetti, Samuel Levine, Wes Mason, Danielle Pastin, Courtney Ruckman, Jordan Rutter, and Matthew Treviño alongside a chamber ensemble of 12 (American Modern Ensemble). Three Way runs June 15 - June 18 at BAM Fisher (Fishman Space).
