After sold out runs in 2009 & 2010, THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND returns for its third limited-run engagement. This unauthorized musical parody inspired by the beloved TV sitcom "The Golden Girls," features book by Nick Brennan (who also directs), music by Jeff Thomson, and lyrics by Luke Jones and Cisco Cardenas. A 6-week limited engagement begins January 8 at Laurie Beechman Theater.

Last December, after I posted my list of the Best Cabaret Performers of 2012, I followed up my original 'listmania' with a column that served as a way to include some 'honorable mentions,' basically a recognition of other memorable shows and performances of songs that were striking, unique, and/or original that year. The column received a positive response so I thought I'd wheel it out again this year. So as the hours tick away on 2013 and we anticipate the coming of a new year, here is an addendum to the 2013 New York Cabaret Performers of the Year--a totally random list of 30 Honorable Mentions of the 'Best' and 'Most' in Cabaret for 2013 . . . mainly because I can and it's fun. Award-winning Broadway, film and TV actor Tony Plana (Ugly Betty) and actor-singer-comedian Ada Maris are among singers slated to perform the songs of writer/composer Paul Cozby Monday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Lone Star Theatre Co. presents the evening in its "Texas Music/New York Stages" series-Only Humans Like My Music-The Songs of Paul Cozby.

BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano. Tonight, December 19th, Broadway Sessions will celebrate the holidays with an all-star concert event. Paige Davis (Chicago, Boeing Boeing, TLC's Trading Spaces) is set to co-host the event.

54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Brian Charles Rooney in "By Request' on Sunday, January 5th, 2014 at 9:30pm. In his 54 Below debut, Brian will deliver an evening of theatrical gems from the rich history of popular music, stage, and screen such as 'Maria,' 'Finishing the Hat,' 'La Vie En Rose,' and 'Music of the Night.' Each song in the program is the result of requests collected over the last few years from fans! You will be delighted by a few gender-bending surprises, as well as some joyfully comedic medleys, that will leave you wondering whether or not what you're hearing is real! Accompanying Mr. Rooney will be musical director Spencer Crosswell.

Charlie Brady (South Pacific, Burnt Part Boys), Danny Gardner (Neuroses, Room 17B), and Phoebe Strole (Glee, Spring Awakening, The Big Meal) join Gregory Jacobs-Roseman with Leslie Kritzer in Hungover for the Holidays at 54 Below.

The January cabaret series that began in 2013 will be back in 2014, making it the newest tradition at Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre. Like the 2013 series, 2014's program will be a rotating mix of one-weekend-only performances in the cozy confines of the No Exit Cafe.
