Grammy and Tony award-winning songwriter and composer Duncan Sheik returns with his new album Whisper House, due out January 27 on Victor Records/Sony. The collection of songs was written for a forthcoming theatrical piece. Whisper House marks Sheik's first solo album since 2006's critically-acclaimed White Limousine and comes on the heels of the success of Spring Awakening. In February, Sheik will embark on a nationwide tour featuring original Spring Awakening cast member Lauren Pritchard. On Whisper House, Sheik employs a narrative approach to songwriting, combining elements of the chamber pop that first brought him critical and commercial acclaim. Much like Spring Awakening, which The New York Times praised as a 'deft blend of straight-up rock, folk and melodic pop,' Whisper House is just as much a pop record as it is a musical theatre composition. Structured as a melodrama, each of the 10 songs on the album weave together to tell the story of a child's grief and spinster's longing as seen through the eyes of the ghosts that haunt the remote, World War II-era Maine lighthouse where they live.

After an amazing run from Off-Broadway sleeper to Tony Award winning Best Musical Spring Awakening ended its run on Broadway last night, Sunday, January 18, following the 7pm performance. BroadwayWorld was there to cheer on the ground breaking musical as it bid Broadway farewell. When Spring Awakening closed, it had played 859 performances and 29 previews. Its eight 2007 Tony? Awards, including Best Musical, made Spring Awakening one of the biggest Tony winners in the past decade. In addition to the Tony Award wins, Spring Awakening won four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the NY Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, the Drama League award for Distinguished Production of a Musical, and the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, among other notable citations.

Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's Spring Awakening, the first musical to be presented by the Atlantic Theater Company, opened June 15th 2006 for a limited run through July 9th at the Atlantic Theater Company (336 West 20th Street). The show, in its world premiere production, began previews on May 19th, from the very first performance audiences knew something special was happening. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Actors Fund and IRT Theater's Artist In Residency program. In the spirit of the holiday season past and present, the Spring Awakening casts - both present and past - perform much of their favorite music. The theme of the show reflects the poem's tone of wanting the changes that come into our lives. The show will also feature a sneak peak into each cast member's Spring Awakening audition.

To commemorate their 20th Annual Festival of New Musicals, the National Alliance of Musical Theatre (NAMT) will celebrate with a benefit concert open to the public entitled A Toast to 20! on Sunday, October 19 at Comix in New York.

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) and Executive Director Kathy Evans announced the directors and casts for the eight musicals being presented at its 20th Annual Festival of New Musicals at New World Stages (340 West 50th St) on Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Also, announced were the line-up for this year's Songwriter Showcase happening during the Festival.

Spring Awakening cast members Hunter Parrish, Gerard Canonico, Blake Daniel, Amanda Castanos, Jenna Ushkowitz and Eryn Murman are currently featured on a special 'Rock the Vote' PSA.
