Manhattan Theatre Club's New York premiere of Cost of Living, the new play by Martyna Majok (Ironbound, Mouse in a Jar), directed by Jo Bonney (Father Comes Home from the Wars; By the Way, Meet Vera Stark), begins performances tonight, Tuesday May 16, at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street).

City Theatre Ends 2016-17 Season with IRONBOUND by Martyna Majok

City Theatre is wrapping up the 2016-17 season that began with the box-office smash-hit Hand to God by Robert Askins, followed by the world premiere of Sharon Washington's Feeding the Dragon, and included critically acclaimed plays by Marco Ramirez, Jessica Dickey, and Colman Domingo.

North Korean Refugee Story to Make Philadelphia Premiere at InterAct Theatre Company

InterAct Theatre Company presents Mia Chung's expressionistic and intensely relevant story of two sisters' perilous journey as they flee oppression in North Korea. You for Me for You is a harrowing, poetic, and satirical tale that creates metaphorical context for larger questions of immigration, assimilation, and human connection, casting a light on the culture clash between American values and North Korea's notoriously inscrutable regime. 

Design-Focused 'in 1: the podcast' Welcomes Tony-Nominated Lighting Designer Japhy Weideman

Just before we say good riddance to 2016, the podcast is back with one more episode with Lighting Designer and four-time Tony Nominee Japhy Weideman. Japhy is fresh off the hit show DEAR EVAN HANSEN, and he tells us about the challenges and nuances of lighting a musical in a black void filled with projected imagery. Cory and Japhy also talk about his style and approach to lighting with examples from his work including BRIGHT STAR, THE NANCE, DEAD POET'S SOCIETY, MACBETH, and THE VISIT.

Merciful Father by Atar Hadari will open UP Theater's seventh season on November 1. The World Premiere of Merciful Father will run through November 12 with performances Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm. Merciful Father is a provocative new take on Sholem Asch's scandalous Yiddish play God of Vengeance.

Atar Hadari's penetrating new play, Merciful Father will open UP Theater's seventh season. The World Premiere of Merciful Father will runNovember 1st through November 12th in Northern Manhattan. The play is based on Sholem Asch's scandalous Yiddish play God of Vengeance which was the inspiration for Paula Vogel's new play, Indecent which premiered at the Vineyard Theatre last season. God of Vengeance premiered on Broadway at the Apollo Theatre in 1923 and featured Broadway's first lesbian kiss. The play was so far ahead of its time, the actors and producers were indicted for giving an immoral performance. Atar Hadari's, Merciful Father is a proactive new take on the story. The production is directed by UP's Artistic Director, James Bosley who has premiered three of his play with UP, including the critically acclaimed productions of Broad Channel, and Epic Poetry.
