BWW Interview: Chad-Alan Carr, Natalie Hurwitch, Maddie Greco, Ella Scott, Leah Watson, And TJ Williams of THE WIZARD OF OZ at Gettysburg Community Theatre

The Wizard of Oz has been delighting audiences since it first appeared as a 1939 movie starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. The story, first created by L. Frank Baum in 1900, has inspired a number of adaptations, and the most popular stage version frequently finds its way to the stage at high schools and community theatres. Even though many of you have probably seen The Wizard of Oz, you've likely never seen a production of it like the one that will open at The Eichelberger Performing Arts Center on November 16th. Why is this production so unique? Because it is being performed by actors from The Penguin Project of Gettysburg Community Theatre. This program gives youth with special needs an opportunity to perform with other youth, both with and without special needs, giving them a chance to focus on their abilities rather than their challenges. BroadwayWorld had an opportunity to hear from Gettysburg Community Theatre's Executive Director, Chad-Alan Carr, as well as from five of the actors who will be performing-Natalie Hurwitch and Maddie Greco, two of the peer mentors; Ella Scott, the actor playing Dorothy; Leah Watson, who portrays Glinda the Good Witch of the North; and TJ Williams, who plays the Wizard of Oz-about their experiences with this production of The Wizard of Oz.

East Lynne Theater Company Presents O. HENRY'S CHRISTMAS TALES

'One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That's all I have, and tomorrow is Christmas,' sighed Della in 'The Gift of the Magi,' just one of the O. Henry stories adapted and performed by Gayle Stahlhuth, who brings to life thirty-plus characters in her memorized, unique tour-de-force storytelling style.

Theatre Arlington Presents THE MAGICAL CITY OF OZ

Lion and tigers and bears, oh my! Main Street in Arlington is now paved with yellow bricks as kids and adults alike are following it to enjoy Theatre Arlington's production of The Magical City of Oz. This fun and whimsical adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, based on L. Frank Baum's book, was first written and staged by Steven D. Morris and Don Powers in 1984. At that time Morris was the theater's first Children's Theatre Director and was frustrated by the lack of entertaining scripts for children, so he set out to create his own with his friend, Don Powers, who composed all the new music. This charming retelling has all of the familiar, loveable characters portrayed by adult actors, but throws in a few new ones along the way, as they attempt to find their way to the mysterious and magical city of Oz. What differs a bit in this version is the participation by the children in the audience! No matter the version or the year, this timeless message still rings true - no matter how we far we travel there is simply no place like home.

Kristin Chenoweth 'Comes Home' For Trio of Concerts With the Nashville Symphony

There's just something about Kristin Chenoweth. It's almost undefinable, perhaps even undescribable, yet as with any writer's efforts to put into words how remarkable the woman behind the image is, I'll give it my best shot, attempting to encapsulate the wonder that is Kristin Chenoweth in 2,000 words or less (but if I go over, don't judge too harshly - I'm simply stating the facts that prove the folly of my initial hypothesis).
