Jacob's Pillow announces this season's artist residencies offered at the Pillow Lab, its year-round incubator of new work. The annual season of customizable residencies supports U.S.-based and international dance artists during crucial development, research, and technical stages of choreography-driven projects. The 2019-2020 recipients include Kyle Abraham, Aszure Barton, Brian Brooks, Milka Djordjevich, Alice Gosti, Kinetic Light, Stephanie McKee-Anderson, Aakash Odedra, RUBBERBAND, Didy Veldman, and Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre. 

With a mesmerizing combination of power and grace, Kyle Abraham returns to The Joyce Theater this fall with his company A.I.M from October 15-20. Presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director), the bill of world and company premieres, as well as popular recent works, will kick off with an already sold-out one-night-only performance from Misty Copeland on October 15.

The UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture will kick off the second edition of a?oe10 Questionsa?? on Oct. 1. Building on the success of its inaugural presentation in 2018, this hybrid undergraduate course and public event series engages leading scholars, artists, scientists, activists, philosophers, executives and more for an energetic exchange of ideas addressing a range of fundamental issues that both shape and transcend our current moment in history.

DANCE NOW announces the lineup for the 2019 Festival ENCORE! The one-night-only performance will feature the 10 choreographers/companies selected by the DANCE NOW producers for having most successfully met the 2019 DANCE NOW Challenge: to create a clear and complete artistic statement in five minutes or less for the specifics of the stage at Joe's Pub. This year's Challenge winner is Nicole Vaughan-Diaz. As the Challenge winner, Vaughan-Diaz will receive a $1,500 stipend and a weeklong creative residency at DANCE NOW Silo on Kirkland Farm in Bucks County, PA. The ENCORE! program will be hosted by Deborah Lohse (aka TruDee).

The Carpenter Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach, has announced the 2019-2020 Arts for Life season. Arts for Life is the Carpenter Center's education initiative, providing concerts, classes, lectures, readings, workshops and more to the CSULB campus, Long Beach schools, and to the wider community. The new Arts for Life season includes the return of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music Concert Series, the Bob Cole Conservatory Showcase Concert, and the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra. Additional free offerings to the public include Ensemble Mik Nawooj, Versa-Style Dance Company, a new lecture series, and a continuation of the popular Shakespeare Aloud series.

Northrop announces its 2019-20 Film Series, featuring several award-winning films with diverse artistic voices from around the world. From a film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby to the Beatles fan favorite Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the more recent The Hate U Give, the series includes cult classics and notable works exploring history, social issues, and arts performances.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, celebrates a landmark 35th anniversary this year. Today, the nominees for the 2019 Bessie Awards, along with the recipients of the 2019 Juried Bessie Award and 2019 Outstanding Breakout Choreographer Award, were announced and celebrated at the Bessies press conference.
