Stages Theatre Company Celebrates 30 Years

Stages Theatre Company (STC) begins its 30th anniversary season with "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" adapted by beloved local playwright Kevin Kling, opening Sept. 20 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

Pumpkin Theatre continues our 45th Anniversary Season "A Celebration of Imagination" with Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. Based on the children's book series by Kevin Henkes, this story is about a mouse named Lilly who loves everything about school, especially her cool teacher, Mr. Slinger. But when Lilly brings her purple plastic purse and its treasures to school and can't wait until sharing time, Mr. Slinger confiscates her prized possession. Lilly's fury leads to revenge and then to remorse and she sets out to make amends. Performances take place on May 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 1 and 3pm at St. Timothy's School, 8400 Greenspring Avenue. Individual tickets are $14 in advance, $16 at the door and available by calling the box office at 410 828 1814 or purchasing ONLINE by visiting our website at www.pumpkintheatre.com.

Lilly is an exuberant young mouse facing all-too-familiar issues at home and in school. Although she courageously stands up to bullies and delights in teaching her friends to spell backwards, Lilly still needs to learn important lessons about family, friendship and forgiveness. Through clever dialogue, fast-paced scenes, realistic characters, and yes, even cheese, the award-winning playwright Kevin Kling creates an entertaining and insightful tale.

The 30th anniversary season at Stages Theatre Company (STC) showcases nine productions for children and young adults, which includes three world premiere productions. The 2013-14 season promises to give audiences new experiences unlike ever before. In 'The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs' audiences will decide the verdict and how the show ends. The last production on the season, 'The Dandelion Seed' allows parents and children to participate in the performance with hands-on interaction geared for ages 18 months to three-years-old.
