Jeff Awards 2017 Non-Equity Nominations Announced

The Jeff Awards announced, via a special video presentation, a total of 127 nominations in 26 categories for the 44th Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017.  Hosting the video presentation were Alexis Roston and Lillian Castillo, who will be this year's Mistresses of Ceremonies at the Awards event on June 5 at The Athenaeum.

The New Colony Presents The World Premiere of SCAPEGOAT; OR (WHY THE DEVIL ALWAYS LOVED US)

The New Colony continues its 2017 Season with the world premiere of Connor McNamara's political thriller SCAPEGOAT; OR (WHY THE DEVIL ALWAYS LOVED US), directed by Kristina Valada-Viars, playing April 13 - May 7, 2017 at The New Colony's resident home, The Den Theatre's Upstairs Main Stage, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Tickets are currently available at www.thenewcolony.org. 

The Chicago Inclusion Project Announces Partnership with The Hypocrites

The Chicago Inclusion Project Founder and Producer Emjoy Gavino is thrilled to announce a new partnership between The Chicago Inclusion Project, a collective dedicated to championing inclusion and diversity in Chicago theater, and The Hypocrites, the off-loop theater company known for mounting bold productions that challenge preconceptions, re-interpreting classics and tackling ambitious new works.

The Hypocrites is pleased to launch its 2016-17 season with the Chicago premiere of YOU ON THE MOORS NOW, Jaclyn Backhaus's comical mash-up of mythology and 19th century literary heroines, directed by Devon de Mayo. YOU ON THE MOORS NOW will play September 9 - October 30, 2016 at The Den Theatre's Heath Main Stage, 1329 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Single tickets and season subscription packages are currently available at www.the-hypocrites.com.  The press opening is Sunday, September 18 at 7 pm.

BWW Review: HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES a Confusing Madcap Drama

THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES is a mixed bag of tone and theme. It is comedy, tragedy, drama, slapstick and farce and then ends in a dark, dark place. Its themes -- The American Dream, mental illness, religion, loneliness, violence and betrayal -- are played out to varying levels of hysteria, which makes for a bewildering night at the theater.

The Hypocrites Receives $200,000 MacArthur Award

The Hypocrites today was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. The Award recognizes exceptional nonprofit organizations who have demonstrated creativity and impact, and invests in their long-term sustainability with sizable one-time grants.  

Jon Steinhagen to Star in THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES at Raven Theatre

JoAnn Montemurro, co-Artistic Director of Raven Theatre, has announced casting for the company's upcoming production of THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES by John Guare. The play will run on the company's East Stage from April 20 through June 18, 2016 under Montemurro's direction.
