The renowned Brevard Music Center (BMC) continues its expansive summer festival offering to western North Carolina audiences with the BMC debuts of Asheville's Terpsicorps (July 17) and New York City's WQXR Young Artists Showcase (July 19). Americana Theatre Company (ATC), Plymouth's professional theatre company, presents the musical theatre classic Man of La Mancha, starring Boston television personality Scott Wahle in the dual role of Don Quixote/Cervantes, from July 7 through 29, with performances weekly from Thursday through Sunday, at Spire Center for Performing Arts, 25 ½ Court Street, Plymouth. Man of La Mancha is written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion. The production is directed by Michael Kirkland, with music direction by Nancy Sparklin.

Brevard Music Center (BMC) will screen the classic American movie musical West Side Story with a full symphony orchestra on Saturday, July 14 at 8:30 PM at Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. Conducting the Brevard Sinfonia in Leonard Bernstein's reverent and iconic score will be BMC alumnus Jayce Ogren. Patrons can enjoy a 7:30 PM pre-concert discussion, Bernstein & Justice, held in conjunction with Transylvania's Project Empathy and presented by Joseph Horowitz, a former New York Times music critic, pioneer in thematic interdisciplinary classical music programming, and one of the most prominent and widely published authorities on American music. The 133rd spring season of The Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall is winding down, but the final week is a whirlwind of activity, culminating in three performances of WEST SIDE STORY: In Concert, and an appearance by two of the stars of the groundbreaking HAMILTON: AN AMERICAN MUSICAL. Tony Award-winning actress Renee Elise Goldsberry and her special guest, Tony-nominated Phillipa Soo, stepped in to replace Leslie Odom, Jr. (another HAMILTON alum) when a scheduling conflict made him unavailable.

Following its successful pre-season jazz and classical guitar concerts in early June, Brevard Music Center (BMC) officially kicks off its 2018 season with an extended (and extensive) opening weekend of performances from Thursday, June 21 through Tuesday, June 26. A masterful collection of artists including Artistic Director Keith Lockhart, pianist Olga Kern, jazz legends The Manhattan Transfer, and bluegrass favorites Steep Canyon Rangers will be featured throughout the weekend.

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $15,000 to Brevard Music Center for its Leonard Bernstein Festival, which is part of the 2018 Summer Music Festival. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera today announced nine-piece swing and jazz band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, will return to the 2018 Deer Valley Music Festival stage on August 4, 2018, rounding out the orchestra's six-week, 17-concert music festival, which begins on June 30, 2018 and runs through August 11, 2018, Tickets for the general public start at $39 and go on sale Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10 AM.

It's getting to that time of year when we think about things that are truly American. We might think about baseball games and hot dogs. There's also, of course, the annual Fourth of July concert on PBS featuring Maestro Keith Lockhart and the world famous Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. If you can't wait until the 4th however, you can catch this true American institution on Sunday, April 8 at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD. Performances are at 2 PM and 7 PM.
