Utah Symphony Announces 2018 Deer Valley Music Festival Summer Lineup And 15th Anniversary Celebrations

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera today announced its lineup for the 2018 Deer Valley Music Festival in addition to its plans to celebrate its 15th year of calling Park City, Utah its summer home. Highlights of the six-week, 17-concert music festival, which begins on June 30, 2018 and runs through August 11, 2018, include Utah Symphony performances with Emmy and Tony Award-winning Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth, folk-rock singer-songwriter Amos Lee, 14-time Grammy Award-winner Ricky Skaggs, and Grammy Award-winner Rick Springfield; music of John Williams with scores from some of Hollywood's biggest blockbuster movies; Broadway vocalists and show tunes honoring Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim musicals; tributes to Swedish pop sensation ABBA, Pink Floyd and the music of the 1970s and '80s; Disney in Concert "A Silly Symphony Celebration" with scenes from some of Disney's earliest colorful cartoons playing on giant screens; and the perennial favorite, "1812 Overture" with live cannon fire on the hillside provided by Cannoneers of the Wasatch.

Boston Pops Announce Spring 2018 Season

The 2018 Boston Pops spring season, May 9-June 16, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, will celebrate the centennial of Leonard Bernstein, one of the greatest international musical figures of the last century-an iconic American musician whose multidimensional talents spanning the worlds of composition, performance, education and conducting greatly influenced the culture at large throughout the mid- and late-20th century, resulting in a legacy that is sure to inspire music lovers far and wide for countless generations to come.  The Boston Pops has an especially proud association with Leonard Bernstein, as he made his professional orchestra conducting debut leading the ensemble during a performance in the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade in 1941, on the cusp of establishing himself as one of the foremost musicians the country had ever seen.

Brevard Music Center Announces 2018 Summer Festival Season

This summer, over a ten-week period spanning June to August, Brevard Music Center (BMC) offers more than eighty performances and events amid the scenic beauty of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. Led by Artistic Director Keith Lockhart, the 2018 BMC Summer Music Festival provides audiences an exceptional array of symphony, opera, chamber, pops, jazz, bluegrass, dance, and folk performances including symphonic masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky; piano virtuosos Olga Kern and Conrad Tao; bluegrass legends Steep Canyon Rangers and Bela Fleck; BMC Presents artists including The Manhattan Transfer and Asheville dance troupe Terpsicorps; a season-long Festival Within a Festival celebrating the centennial of Leonard Bernstein; a Rock Violin Concerto featuring R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, and a family-friendly night at the movies with West Side Story on the big screen, accompanied by a live symphony.

Alan Schmuckler, Amanda Yesnowitz and Christian Duhamel Win the 2018 Kleban Prize

The Kleban Foundation just announced the recipients of the 28th Annual Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre. Adjudication in the 2018 Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist category resulted in a tiebetween Alan Schmuckler and Amanda Yesnowitz, andthe 2018 Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Christian Duhamel. The 2018 prizes will be presented on Monday, February 5, 2018, in a private ceremony (by invitation only) hosted by ASCAP and BMI at ASCAP.

Mark White Octet Celebrates Album Release at The Black Box

Celebrate the release of the Mark White Octet's debut recording with a live performance at THE BLACK BOX, downtown Franklin's theater, music and event venue, at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 1.
