National Black Theatre Announces Cast of New Radio Play, RETREAT

National Black Theatre has officially announced the cast, creative team, and ticket sales date for the institution's first produced radio play, Retreat, written by NBT I AM SOUL Playwright Resident Tracey Conyer Lee (Rabbit Summer) and directed by Zhailon Levingston (Neptune; Dixon Place and The Brooklyn Museum).
The Public Theater's Mobile Unit to Tour This Spring With CYMBELINE

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) will bring Shakespeare's CYMBELINE, directed by Carl Cofield, on tour for the first time ever to venues across the city in a free four-week tour (April 16-May 15), as part of The Public's commitment to bringing free theater to all and deepening its engagement with communities across the five boroughs. The Mobile Unit's free tours bring Shakespeare and other works to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts by visiting correctional facilities, homeless shelters, social service organizations, and other community organizations. Following the tour to the five boroughs, there will also be a free three-week engagement of CYMBELINE in The Public's Shiva Theater running Monday, May 18 through Sunday, June 7, with an official press opening on Thursday, May 21.
The Bushwick Starr and National Black Theatre's SKINFOLK Has Been Extended

The Bushwick Starr has partnered with National Black Theatre in presenting the world premiere of SKiNFoLK: An American Show, created by playwright and performer Jillian Walker (Blue Ink at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, Sarah's Salt. developed at Roundabout Theater Company and MCC Theater), recent recipient of the NEA grant and the 2020-21 Tow Playwright-in-Residence at Soho Rep. The play is directed by Mei Ann Teo (Where We Belong at Shakespeare's Globe, Dim Sum Warriors at Shanghai's Theatre Above and national China tour).
The Second City's Black History Month Show Will Return for 2020

The Second City has announced casting for the return of The Second City's Black History Month. Under the direction of Ali Barthwell, the show features ensemble members Robel Arega, Jillian Ebanks, Leila Gorstein, Collette Gregory, Bill Letz, and Max Thomas. John Love will serve as music director and Sam McNerland will stage manage. The show runs February 4-March 11 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8pm.
PEDRO PAN Soars at New York Musical Festival Starting July 10th

Directed by Will Heyser-Paone, this stand-alone sequel written by Jones-Hope-Wooten, the comedic trio behind hits such as The Dixie Swim Club and The Hallelujah Girls, will premiere at the Old Opera House. Gaynelle Verdeen refuses to admit that she's turning 50, so her cousins attempt to throw her a surprise birthday party. However, the surprise is on them when the cousins are forced to turn the party into a full fledged family funeral!

The four plays chosen this year vary from zany comedies to thought-provoking dramas and present various challenges to the actors and directors.
