"You'll shoot your eye out!" Instead of watching the nostalgic Christmas movie during another 24 hour movie marathon, see A Christmas Story: The Musical live on stage at the Old Opera House in Charles Town, WV, opening December 4.
Come spend a delightful "Weekend in the Country" when A Little Night Music opens at the Old Opera House in Charles Town, WV this Friday, September 5.
Directed by David Porterfield and musically directed by Alison Shafer, Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music portrays various relationships between amorous actress Desiree Armfeldt, her old flame Frrederick and her current lover, the Count Carl-Magnus. Both men are married, one to an innocent child-bride and the other to a witty wife. Desiree also has a child, currently being raised by her sharp-tongued grandmother, while Desiree is occupied touring in a traveling play. Relationships are renewed and old flames spark when all of the characters are invited to the Armfeldt estate for the weekend.
Set in 'Ancient Greece,' GODS & KINGS is an original alt-rock musical that boldly brings to life the timeless fable of The Bacchae. The story centers on the conflict between the unyieldingly rational King Pentheus (Ben Garrett) and the wildly anarchic God Dionysus (Jonathan Grunert) as they struggle for influence and power over the people of Thebes. With music by Neil Douglas Reilly (Rocky, The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess) and book and lyrics by Austin Ruffer, the musical asks: Do people really have to live a life stuck between Gods and Kings?

Directed by Steven Brewer, musically directed by Alison Shafer and choreographed by Ashley Snow, Shrek: The Musical will open this weekend at the Old Opera House in Charles Town, West Virginia.
Shrek: The Musical follows the story of the well-known 2001 movie almost identically. Shrek (Edgar Conn) is a misjudged ogre who lives alone in a swamp.....until tyrannical ruler Lord Farquaad (Shawn Nakia) evicts all of the 'reject' fairy tale creatures in the kingdom of Duloc (including the Three Bears, the Three Pigs, Pinocchio and many others) onto Shrek's muddy home. In order to win back his land, Shrek must rescue the not so typical damsel-in-distress, Princess Fiona (Karilee Grossnickle), from a dragon guarded castle, with the help of his wise-cracking donkey (Andrew McClain).
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, SHREK the Musical brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to the stage! Join Shrek and his loyal steed Donkey, as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful (if slightly temperamental) Princess Fiona. Add the diminutive Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairytale misfits and a cookie with attitude, and you've got this year's must-see new musical comedy!
Charles Dickens' classic story of how the miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge is transformed into a charitable soul by three different apparitions that appear to him one cold Christmas Eve, has become the most recognizable tale of the Christmas season. Academy and Grammy Award winning composer Leslie Bricusse has enlivened this tale with his musical magic and lyrical wit.
