Interview: Playwright Catya McMullen on the World Premiere of ARROWHEAD produced by IAMA Theatre Company

Catya McMullen (pictured), a native New Yorker, now finds herself at home in Los Angeles. While working in film and television, her life-long love of theater inspired her to write plays. The world premiere of Arrowhead is her first being presented here, produced by IAMA at Atwater Village Theatre, directed by Jenna Worsham. I decided to speak with Catya about her journey to writing the play, why she set it in Arrowhead, its themes, and how it speaks to different generations of women about love and sexual identity.

BWW Interview: Hannah Rose Caton in TWELFTH NIGHT at Two River Theater

Two River Theater is now presenting William Shakespeare's romantic comedy 'Twelfth Night' directed by Sara Holdren with original songs composed by the band/theater collective, The Lobbyists. Two River Theater Presents TWELFTH NIGHT Starring Joey McIntyre

Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, will kick off the new year with Shakespeare's romantic comedy Twelfth Night, directed by Sara Holdren with original songs composed by the band/theater collective The Lobbyists. Performances will begin in Two River's Rechnitz Theater, 21 Bridge Avenue, on Saturday, January 11 and continue through Sunday, February 2. The opening night performance is Friday, January 17 at 7pm. BWW Review: The raucous 1944 Democratic CONVENTION reenacted and you are there

Ever wanted to sit on the floor during a Presidential nominating National Convention?  The opportunity is available in Brooklyn at the Irondale Center.  Danny Rocco's play immerses its audience onto the floor of the 1944 Democratic convention.  Roosevelt had already served four terms and was not expected to live through his next one.  A battle for the Vice Presidency - and for the likely next President - occurred.  That juicy political story is retold here with a huge cast of forty actors.

Immersive Political Comedy CONVENTION To Get World Premiere At Brooklyn's Irondale

After three years of development, beginning immediately after the 2016 Presidential election that left the democratic constituency of the United States in a state of shock, the new immersive comedy Convention will make its world premiere this summer at Brooklyn's very own Irondale (85 S. Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217), located just steps from BAM.   Convention will begin performances Friday, June 7, and play a strictly limited engagement through Saturday, June 29. An opening night has been set for Thursday, June 13 at 8:00pm.  

Stonestreet Studios Celebrates 25 Years of Filmmaking With Alumnus Miles Teller, Releases Six New Webseries

Yesterday, Stonestreet Studios celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Taj lounge in Chelsea, honoring Miles Teller who was presented with the first annual Stonestreet Granite Award. Teller, who studied at Stonestreet's immersive conservatory program for two years was a guest of honor at the event, and was recognized for his remarkable work in the film industry.

Cast, Creative Teams Set for Next Week's ESPA Drills Reading Series

Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts has announced the casts, creative teams and performance schedule for the annual ESPA Drills Reading Series on August 24 and 25. Now in its sixth year, ESPA Drills is the annual new play development program providing staged readings to four playwrights. The plays are workshopped under the guidance of the ESPA staff and will be presented before an audience of industry peers Off-Broadway at The Duke on 42nd Street.
