Oracle Productions, Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre Win Big at 41st Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards

"The Mother," a stage tale of class warfare, and "Passion," a musical of love and obsession, took home top honors for Oracle Productions and Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre respectively Monday, June 2, at Park West during the 41st Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards ceremony recognizing excellence in non-union Chicago theatre. Oracle, with five awards, and Theo Ubique, with four awards, garnered the most honors at Monday night's ceremony.

Non-Equity Jeff Awards are Announced

The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 128 nominations in 24 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 147 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 66 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty theatre companies received nominations.

Rivendell Theatre Ensemble (RTE) Chicago's only Equity theatre devoted to the work of women theatre artists, and Artistic Director Tara Mallen are proud to announce the Chicago premiere of Courtney Baron's Eat Your Heart Out, directed by Hallie Gordon, May 22 - June 28 at Rivendell's performance venue, 5779 N. Ridge Ave. Previews are Thursday, May 22 - Saturday, May 24 at 8 p.m., and Wednesday, May 28 - Friday, May 30 at 8 p.m. Press Opening is Saturday, May 31 at 7 p.m. with Opening Night Sunday and Board reception, June 1 at 6 p.m. The performance schedule is Wednesday - Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 and 8 p.m. The running time is approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Oracle Productions to Present THE MOTHER, 1/23-3/1

Oracle Productions proudly announces the remount of THE MOTHER by Bertolt Brecht, which opens Season 4 of Public Access Theatre. Less than one year ago, the company's original production of this activist musical was Jeff Recommended, and featured a world premiere score composed by Jonathan Guillen. Artistic Director Max Truax restages the piece with the original cast including Katherine Keberlein starring in the title role. THE MOTHER opens January 23, 2014, and runs through March 1, 2014 at Oracle Theatre (3809 N Broadway in Chicago). Performances are Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday nights at 8PM; Sundays at 7PM. Chicago loves Public Access Theatre, and Oracle is proud to announce the lineup for Season 4. Following the unprecedented success of 2013 that included 2 Jeff Awards recommendations and ticket requests beyond capacity, the Board of Directors, Staff and Company Members are preparing for an ambitious season that will increase the number of free seats available to the public by 30%. The lineup includes four mainstage plays from Oracle Theatre, a variety of filmmaker showcases and festivals from Oracle Film, magicians and puppets and experimental artists in Oracle B*Sides, and several episodes of vintage radio shows brought into retirement communities and hospitals through The Radio Movement. Acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Noah Haidle returns to Chicago with his newest work, Smokefall, which examines life's big questions through the prism of an ordinary family. Hailed by The New Yorker as "formidably talented, with a sort of freewheeling intuitive daring," the Michigan native playwright most recently wrote the 2012 film Stand Up Guys (starring Alan Arkin, Christopher Walken and Al Pacino) and previously authored Mr. Marmalade, Vigils (at the Goodman in 2006) and Persephone for the stage. Director Anne Kauffman, in her Goodman debut, assembles an ensemble cast for the Goodman production, including legendary Chicago actor Mike Nussbaum (Henry VIII at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre) as the Colonel; Catherine Combs (The Delling Shore at Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival) in the roles of Beauty and Blessing; Katherine Keberlein (Boeing, Boeing at Drury Lane Oakbrook) as Violet; Guy Massey (Failure: A Love Story at Victory Gardens Theater) as Footnote and Fetus Two; and Eric Slater (Gloryana at New York City's Public Theater) as Daniel and Fetus One.
