Shakespeare's Globe to Bring HAMLET, KING LEAR to Folger Theatre's 2014-15 Season; Lineup Announced!

Folger Theatre Artistic Producer Janet Alexander Griffin today announced the 2014/15 season. With six full Shakespeare productions on stage at the Folger to celebrate the Bard's 450th, Folger Theatre will start the upcoming season with two special, limited engagements by London's Shakespeare's Globe. First, the acclaimed staging of Hamlet, seen at the Folger in 2012, returns in late July for just three performances as part of their Globe to Globe Hamlet, the ambitious two-year tour bringing the Danish prince to every country in the world. Then, once again in a September residency, Shakespeare's Globe will perform King Lear for eighteen shows. Joseph Marcell (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jacques in Folger Theatre's 2007 As You Like It) plays the title role.

BSO Sets Cast for Symphonic Premiere of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 5/29-6/1

In a new collaboration with Washington, D.C.'s Folger Theatre, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop bring together an all-star cast of stage, film and television for Director Edward Berkeley's adaptation of the William Shakespeare comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Featuring John Bolger of 'General Hospital' and Linda Powell of 'Chicago Fire,' Midsummer will premiere with the BSO on May 29 at the Music Center at Strathmore, and May 30 through June 1 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Actors Theatre of Louisville Opens GNIT, 3/17

Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein have announced the world premiere of Gnit by Will Eno, directed by Artistic Director Les Waters. The play will run in the Pamela Brown Auditorium and will begin previews on March 15, open March 17 and run through April 7. Tickets are on sale now to the public and can be purchased at the Actors Theatre Box Office by calling 502-584-1205 or online at ActorsTheatre.org. The 37th Humana Festival of New American Plays is made possible by a generous grant from the Humana Foundation. Gnit is presented as part of the Brown Forman Series, by special arrangement with Signature Theatre and was developed at The Pershing Square Signature Center, with thanks to the J.A.W. Festival, Portland Center Stage. Director is underwritten by Todd P. Lowe and Fran C. Ratterman; Bruce Merrick and Karen McCoy.

Four additional awards-Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service Award, the Ted and Stevie Wolf Award for New Approaches to Collaborations, Brown Martin Philadelphia Award and the F. Otto Haas Award for an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist-will also be distributed at the ceremony.

Fred Arsenault, Ashlie Atkinson, et al. to Star in Arena Stage's BOOK CLUB PLAY, 10/7-11/6

In her smart comedy The Book Club Play, D.C.-area playwright Karen Zacarías examines the intricacies of book clubs, with their unspoken rules, high-spirited debates and strong bonds formed when least expected. With an ensemble cast featuring Fred Arsenault, Ashlie Atkinson, Rachael Holmes, Eric Messner, Kate Eastwood Norris and Tom Story, this is Zacarías' second collaboration with Director Molly Smith at Arena Stage and is the first work of a Resident Playwright to be produced as part of their three-year residencies through the American Voices New Play Institute. The Book Club Play runs October 7-November 6, 2011 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
