The National Ballet of Canada's annual gala fundraiser took place this past Wednesday, raising $1 million for the company. Hosted by the CBC's Jian Ghomeshi, the Carmen inspired evening entitled MAD HOT BALLET brought together some of Toronto's best dressed arts lovers and proved to be a magical evening. The Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts is simultaneously celebrating its 20th year, and has renovated the large theatre that is part of the Randolph Centre for the Performing Arts building. The Bathurst Street Theatre, located at 736 Bathurst St., will now be known as the Randolph Theatre, named after the President and Founder of the Academy, George C. Randolph Jr.

This past Wednesday, The National Ballet of Canada celebrated their 60th Anniversary with a gala event at The Four Seasons Centre for the Arts. The evening embraced a 'Diamond' theme, with gorgeous tutus on display throughout the centre showcasing designs from all over the world. Guests were invited to watch highlights from the Ballet's impressive repertoire and then had a gala dinner and dance on the stage of the Centre. Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award was inaugurated in 1996 and is given to a Canadian artist who demonstrates excellence in the performing arts and is dedicated to advocating and being an ambassador for the arts in Canada. The Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award is sponsored by the City of Toronto, and the recipient is awarded with a scroll and a cheque for $1,000 from the City.
On Tuesday June 21st The National Ballet of Canada transformed Toronto's Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts into a MAD HOT Wonderland for their annual fundraising gala. The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Peter Oundjian, who have garnered attention for their remarkable resurgence since Mr. Oundjian was appointed Music Director in 2004, will perform at Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern Auditorium on Saturday, March 26 at 8:00 p.m.
The West Side Story Suite began this weekend and is presented by the National Ballet of Canada. It is part of Luminato, The Toronto Festival for the Arts and Creativity.
