All anyone in the theatre world is talking about so far this morning is last night's first preview of the highly anticipated SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off the Dark. I was there and it was certainly a night to remember. Message boards and Twitter were abuzz throughout the show, as audiences sat through 4 technical stops in Act 1, and 1 in Act 2 as well as an elongated intermission (and one heckler), but the show as performed from beginning to end.

Tonight at approximately 10:15, the first preview of the highly anticipated SPIDER-MAN ended, some 3 hours and 45 minutes after it was scheduled to begin. Message boards and Twitter were abuzz throughout the show, noting that there were 4 technical stops in Act 1, and 1 in Act 2 as well as an elongated intermission, but the show as performed from beginning to end.

SPIDER-MAN Flying Sequences Are Approved

The New York Times is reporting that on Friday, safety inspectors from the New York State Department of Labor saw and signed off on all 27 flying sequences in SPIDER MAN, and the show will indeed begin previews tonight at 6:30 pm. After last night's dress rehearsal was cancelled, it's been speculated at the entire show won't be performed tonight; the Times reports that stops during this evening's performance are possible and also notes that the final 10 minutes are 'not fully finished'.

Julie Taymor is at the helm of a new film adaptation of THE TEMPEST, to be released nationwide December 17. The film was shot in Hawaii with stars Helen Mirren (Prospera), Alfred Molina (Stephano), Ben Whishaw (Ariel), FeliciTy Jones (Miranda), Russell Brand (Trinculo), Djimon Hounsou (Caliban), Alan Cumming (Sebastian), Chris Cooper (Antonio), and David Strathairn (Alonso).
