It's nearly August, it's nearly a heatwave and it's DEFINITELY another great month of shows at Underbelly Festival Southbank.

Based on Jules Verne's classic adventure novel Around the World in 80 Days, Fire Hazard Games are staging a new, high energy urban adventure for adults in central London. Fire Hazard's recent real-life immersive games include The Hunted Experience and John Le Carre's The Circus. 80 Days: A Real-World Adventure is presented in association with Underbelly Festival Southbank.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Film Society's 2019 Screening Series will present the Oscar -winning classic CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (1977) and pay tribute to its Oscar-nominated Production Designer Joe Alves, ADG, at the Egyptian Theatre on Sunday, June 23 at 5:30 pm. Following the screening, Mr. Alves will explore the making of Close Encounters and behind-the-scenes challenges including creating the massive alien ships, moderated by Thomas A. Walsh, ADG, Production Designer and ADG Film Society Co-chair. The annual 2019 Screening Series Production Design: Designers On Design, highlighting the work of renowned Production Designers and their creative collaborations, is in association with American Cinematheque.

National Players, America's longest-running touring company and the hallmark outreach program of the Olney Theatre Center, conclude their 70th tour with a homestand featuring repertory presentations an adaptation of Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days from May 22-May 26 and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night from May 29-June 2 in Olney's Historic Theatre.

Sir Thomas Allen's five-star production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute returns to Scottish Opera in May, set in a spectacular world inspired by the Victorian futurism of HG Wells and Jules Verne.

Music Theatre International of Rome will present Around the World in 72 Days. The Journey of Nellie Bly. at City Lit Theater Company, in Italian with projected English titles, in an exclusive one-night-only performance on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:00 pm, followed by an artist's reception, at 1020 W. The dance, music, theatre and visual arts academies of  Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts aka: Grand Arts, present the musical Broadway production of HAIRSPRAY.
