This May, Playhouse Square presents a fun day of theater and activities for Cleveland through Family Theater Day presented by University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Family Theater Day offers children and families the opportunity to experience unique live performances and activities, and enjoy the excitement of a visit to downtown Cleveland in a fun, welcoming environment.

Family Theater Day takes place on May 4. In addition to the ticketed theater performances, Playhouse Square offers crafts and additional experiences free of charge. Children of all ages can enjoy Abracadabra! Kids Learn Magic, an interactive installation that that explores the world of magic, and they can dance along with the family-friendly band Recess Monkey.

There also will be a photo booth, balloon and caricature artists, face painters and more waiting to delight and entertain.

Tickets for Family Theater Day performances are on sale now at the Playhouse Square Ticket Office (1510 Euclid Ave.), online at playhousesquare.org/familytheaterday or by phone at 216-241-6000. Tickets for each performance are $10-15. Tickets for free activities are not required.

Jason Bishop: Straight Up Magic

Shh! We Have a Plan

Based on the Chris Haughton book of the same name, Shh! We Have a Plan is a nonverbal tale featuring magic, music and puppetry. Follow the delightful and surprising journey of some madcap characters, each of whom has a plan to capture a beautiful bird perched high in a tree.

Sounds simple, but the quest soon becomes an obsession and the obsession becomes the absurd. Where will it all end? Join us as the characters learn to love and look after nature while discovering that perhaps freedom and kindness are more important than getting what you want at any cost. Prepare to be enchanted and amazed by this exciting theatrical adventure for young children!

Recess Monkey

Drew, Jack and Korum are three teachers who make kid's music that grows out of their days in their classrooms. They continue to be praised across the country for singable, danceable songs that parents enjoy as much as their kids.

Abracadabra! Kids Learn Magic

Local magicians come together to provide a captivating experience for families and children. See a free 15-minute magic show. Then, for those who wish to continue the enchantment, step to the other side of the magic curtain where another magician will personally teach every child in the audience a magic trick they can easily master and take home with them - for free! (Magic trick supplies provided while supplies last, designed for children ages six and up.) Come celebrate the joy of magic with the ones you love.
