Funny Girl Brings Chutzpah To Players Centre

This June, renowned singer and actress Patti LuPone will bring her critically acclaimed concert, her love letter to the Great White Way, Don't Monkey with Broadway to the Sydney Opera House and Arts Centre Melbourne.

Fifty four years ago a little musical shot a young actress to superstardom. The musical was Funny Girl; the actress was Barbra Streisand. Today, she reflects on the show that launched her legendary career!

Multiple award-winning producers Luckiest Productions and One Eyed Man Productions are thrilled to announce the cast for their highly anticipated production of Gypsy. With a toe-tapping, acclaimed score, Gypsy is heralded by many as the greatest musical ever created and will run from 18 May at the Hayes Theatre Co.

Riverside Theatre presents GYPSY, the musical classic with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, music by Jule Styne, and a book by Arthur Laurents! GYPSY opened on March 6th and will run through March 25th.

Since its debut on Broadway in 1959, GYPSY has been hailed as one of the most perfect examples of the musical theatre artform. From the lush score of Jule Styne to the inventive lyrics of a young Stephen Sondheim to the funny- and ultimately heartbreaking- book by Arthur Laurents, it is hard to find a flaw in this show. However, as years pass and the genre evolves, it becomes easy to cynically think of the classics as dated period pieces to be looked at respectfully, but only with a sense of retrospect. However, the production of this musical fable playing at the Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach through March 25th reminds you from the opening moments of the power and poignancy, excitement and insight that the American musical standard-bearers still possess.

Who has never dreamed of imprisoning time, being eternally a child? The desires of Peter Pan populate the collective unconscious and follow as one of the great longings of humanity. No wonder, the fable of the boy who refused to grow up, created by J. M. Berrie, is more and more current. This classic became a reference in literature, in the cinema and also in the theater. The Broadway version of 'Peter Pan' will finally win a Brazilian staging, with Mateus Ribeiro in the title role and Daniel Boaventura as Captain Hook. The show directed by Jose Possi Neto and choreographed by Alonso Barros, premiered on March 8, at Teatro Alfa, in a production of Touche Entertainment and coproduction of Daniel Boaventura.

With a name like BAR MITZVAH BOY, it should be no surprise that the current musical at the York is a coming of age story. What is surprising is that the composer of this intimate piece is Jule Styne, better known for brassy star vehicles like GYPSY and FUNNY GIRL.
