Broadway performer Sondra Lee died of natural causes in her New York City apartment at age 97. Throughout her nine-decade career, Lee won awards as a dancer, actor, teacher, author, stage director, playwright, theatre and film consultant and painter.

Earlier this week, The Nederlander Organization unveiled the new Lena Horne Theatre in honor of the iconic entertainer and civil rights activist. Robert ('Bob') Ullman (left), the legendary theatre press agent, whose career included Ethel Merman and Mary Martin: Together on Broadway, A Chorus Line (from workshop to Public Theater to Broadway), Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in The Visit, Lauren Bacall in Cactus Flower, The Dining Room, Driving Miss Daisy, Sunday in the Park with George, and over 150 additional Broadway and off-Broadway plays and musicals, died on July 31, 2019 in Bayshore, Long Island, New York. He was 97. The cause of death was cardiac arrest. Bob's death was announced by Rev. Joshua Ellis, a long-time Ullman friend, a former Broadway press agent, and now, an Interspiritual minister.

After the immense success of her previous classes, United Solo is bringing back Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis to teach a series of 3 Master Classes on consecutive Fridays starting August 30, 2019 in New York City. This is a rare opportunity to work with Ms. Dukakis over the course of three weeks, developing one's acting skills and receiving her direct feedback. The class series, 'The Importance of Craft,' will teach students to identify and develop what is important to them as performers. Ms. Dukakis will explain how to approach the craft of acting as a personal connection to thoughts, actions, circumstances, and character, as expressed and defined by the text. 'My most important tools when I teach are my own sensibility, my personal perceptions, my knowledge of the craft, and the excitement and satisfaction I always feel with students,' said Ms. Dukakis.

Dancers Over 40 will welcome a bushel full of performers, surprise guests and a gaggle of… wandering dancers from every discipline for a tribute to theatre impresario David Merrick on Monday, April 29, 7pm at St. Luke's Theater, 308 West 46th Street in NYC. 

United Solo will host a Master Class with Anne Bogart, internationally acclaimed director, author, and Head of the MFA in Directing Program at Columbia University. This Master Class is a unique opportunity to work with a legendary theatre artist. It will take place on November 5, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Theatre Row in New York City.

Due to popular demand, United Solo brings back Olympia Dukakis to teach in the Master Class Series on September 16, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. Austin Pendleton will return to the studio at Theatre Row, NYC, to teach his fourth Master Class at the United Solo Professional Training Program. Participants will be coached on monologues and scenes.

United Solo will host Penny Cherns, Director of the MA in Classical Acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), to teach a Master Class as part of the United Solo Professional Training Program on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. This class, "Trusting the Text," investigates the ways in which the actor can mine, analyze, and explore the text to find a variety of personal resonance and character journeys.

United Solo will host a Master Class taught by Joshua Ellis, renowned theater publicist and press agent, as part of the United Solo Professional Training Program, on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. This class will introduce participants to practical tools and skills required to publicize and market themselves and their shows. It's about shaping expectations for potential audiences, whether they are critics, reporters or theatergoers.

United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, concluded its eighth season with a Gala at Theatre Row in New York. Throughout its ten-week run, the festival offered 120 stage productions, representing six continents, performed mostly in English, but also in Bulgarian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, and in the category of physical theatre through body language. Nearly 60 shows sold out, and were presented several times due to popular demand. Fiona Show called United Solo 'the mecca of the solo shows in the world.' This past season, the festival presented productions created by new talents, as well as show business veterans, including Oscar winner Milton Justice and Emmy winner Bill Oberst Jr. This year's festival also offered Master Classes led by Pau Aran Gimeno, a performer at Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; James Lecesne, an actor, activist, author of the screenplay for an Oscar-winning film; and Austin Pendleton, a renowned actor and director, and a recipient of the Drama Desk Special Award.

The world's largest solo theatre festival will begin its eighth season at Theatre Row on Thursday, September 14, with a night of two shows, both of which are completely sold out.

The Ziegfeld Society of New York City presents the second show of its Eighth Season on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 3:30pm CALL MY PUBLICIST! - THE STARRY EDUCATION OF A BROADWAY PRESS AGENT. Billed as "An Insider's View of the Theatre's Glamour and Folly," at Lang Recital Hall, Hunter College, 107 East 69th Street, (bet Park & Lexington Ave).  The autobiographical play with music is written and performed by Joshua Ellis, with direction by Gretchen Cryer, with musical direction and arrangements by Mark York. 

Tympanic is excited to announce the cast and crew for the World Premiere of SWEET ANALYTICS, a dark comedy by Hayes Borkowski (Vacation, Area IV Theatre), directed by Joshua Ellison*. SWEET ANALYTICS begins Tympanic's tenth season, and opens October 24, 2016 and runs through November 20, 2016 at Berry United Methodist Church, 4754 N Leavitt St. in Chicago.
