Russian Choral Group Slavyanka Performs ALL-NIGHT VIGIL Tonight

San Francisco, CA (June 25, 2015) – The 100th anniversary of the premiere of Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil (Vespers) will be celebrated with three performances of the choral work by Bay Area Russian choral ensemble Slavyanka tonight, August 21 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Palo Alto, Saturday, August 22 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, and Sunday, August 23 at First Congregational Church in Berkeley. Russian conductor and Slavyanka Artistic Director Irina Shachneva, an authority on Russian choral music, will lead the concerts.
ACME to Open 2015-16 Season at Five Boroughs Music Festival, 9/11

ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble opens its 2015-2016 season with a concert presented by Five Boroughs Music Festival at 7pm on Friday, September 11, 2015 at National Opera Center's Scorca Recital Hall. The program features music by ACME members Timo Andres (solo piano piece TBA), Caleb Burhans (Jahrzeit for string quartet), and Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw (Gustave Le Grey), as well as Meredith Monk's rarely performed string quartet Stringsongs and Charles Ives' Piano Trio, Op. 86. The group will also present the world premiere of 5×5, a suite of five movements commissioned by Five Boroughs Music Festival, featuring musical contributions by each of the five composer-performers on the program - Shaw, Andres, and Burhans plus violinist Ben Russell and cellist/ACME artistic director Clarice Jensen. ACME players for this concert are Caroline Shaw and Ben Russell, violins; Caleb Burhans and Caitlin Lynch, violas; Clarice Jensen, cello; and Timo Andres, piano.

?The Celebrity Series of Boston announced its 2015-2016 season today, marking 77 years of bringing the world's greatest performing artists to Boston. The season opens on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 with author and speaker David Sedaris. In total, the 2015-2016 season will include 48 music, dance and entertainment engagements. As the New England Conservatory's affiliate orchestra, BMOP regularly features the talent of NEC students and alumni. The evening includes: the world premiere of Ondine by 2014-15 BMOP/NEC Composition Competition winner Stephanie Ann Boyd; John Harbison's Concerto for Bass Viol, featuring Boston Symphony Orchestra principal bassist Edwin Barker, and the Boston premiere of Paul Moravec's The Blizzard Voices with the NEC Concert Choir. Thanks to the generosity of the Gregory E. Bulger Foundation, this concerts is free to the public.

Joshua Gersen, age 30, has been named New York Philharmonic Assistant Conductor beginning in September 2015. He will assist Music Director Alan Gilbert and all guest conductors throughout the season, and will lead educational events, including Young People's Concerts and Young People's Concerts for Schools.
