Jupiter String Quartet Releases New Album 'Metamorphosis' June 12

The Jupiter String Quartet announces the June 12, 2020 release of Metamorphosis on Marquis Classics. This album features Beethoven's Quartet Op. 131 and Ligeti's Quartet No. 1 “Métamorphoses nocturnes.” The album was produced by Grammy Award winner Judith Sherman; engineered by Frank Horger and Graham Duncan with assistance from Jeanne Velonis; and recorded March 15-17, 2019, in Foellinger Great Hall, Krannert Center, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL.

Boston Baroque To Re-imagine 20-21 Concert Season Due to Closure of Jordan Hall

On Friday afternoon, Boston Baroque learned that, due to the current COVID-19 situation, New England Conservatory made the decision to close Jordan Hall to outside organizations for the entire 2020-2021 concert season.

Donato Cabrera, Music Director of the California Symphony and Las Vegas Philharmonic, has launched two new online projects. MusicWise - Conversations about Art and Culture with Donato Cabrera is a weekly series on Facebook Live and The Music Plays On is a daily series on Cabrera's blog, featuring commentary and analysis on his favorite performances and recordings. Both initiatives are part of the continued commitment by Cabrera, California Symphony, and Las Vegas Philharmonic to promote engagement and connection with their audiences.

Handel And Haydn Society Announces Cancellation Of Vivaldi The Four Seasons

Following the CDC guidelines to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the Handel and Haydn Society has canceled both performances of Vivaldi The Four Seasons set to take place May 1 + 3 at Symphony Hall. H+H will reschedule this performance for a future season.

Following guidelines from Governor Baker banning events larger than 250 people, The Handel and Haydn Society has canceled both performances of Bach St. Matthew Passion originally set to take place April 3 and 5 at Symphony Hall. The performances will not be rescheduled.

The Handel and Haydn Society will celebrate Artistic Director Harry Christophers's 12th and final season with nine major subscription concerts at Symphony Hall and the New England's Conservatory's Jordan Hall and select other venues. The 2020-21 season, the 206th in the organization's history, will feature a host of Christophers's favorite compositions and a powerful line-up of major choral works featuring the Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra, Chorus and notable guest artists.

As New England Conservatory's (NEC) affiliate orchestra for new music, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) presents the 21st annual Boston ConNECtion concert featuring music by NEC students, alumni, and collaborators. This year's program includes the world premiere of Effleurage by 2020 BMOP/NEC Composition Competition winner Lavell Blackwell, three works by NEC's Malcolm Peyton Composer Artist-in-Residence Joseph Schwantner, as well as a solo violin performance by the 2020 BMOP/NEC Concerto Competition winner Ilana Zaks.

Boston Baroque Performs Vivaldi's The Four Seasons This March

Boston Baroque returns to Vivaldi's masterworks, The Four Seasons and Gloria in D, along with Monteverdi's Beatus Vir this March, featuring Concertmaster Christina Day Martinson and conducted by Music Director Martin Pearlman. Two performances of this program will take place at NEC's Jordan Halla?"the first, on Friday, March 27 at 8pm, and the second on Sunday, March 29 at 3pm. Pre-concert speaker Laury Gutiérrez, founding director of La Donna Musicale, will give a talk before both performances at 7pm and 2pm.

Leading the vanguard of Boston's classical music scene, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) and Odyssey Opera present the world premiere of The Chronicle of Nine: The Tragedy of Lady Jane by the late American composer Arnold Rosner (1945-2013). A semi-staged, English-language production led by conductor Gil Rose,The Chronicle of Nine unites Odyssey Opera (one of the nation's most innovative opera companies), BMOP(the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music), and internationally renowned singers including soprano Megan Pachecano playing the lead role of Lady Jane Grey. This marks the third of six productions of Odyssey Opera'sseason-long exploration of operatic works inspired by the great English dynasty of the 16th century:the Tudors.

Handel and Haydn Society Set to Mark 2,500 Performance with Emancipation Proclamation Concert

The Handel and Haydn Society and the Museum of African American History present the Emancipation Proclamation Concert. This special event will also mark the 2,500th performance by the Handel and Haydn Society in its history. Part of Boston's First Night celebration, the concert will take place at the historic Trinity Church in Copley Square Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 1:00 pm with Scott Allen Jarrett conducting. The performance will include narration by poet Regie Gibson of passages from the Emancipation Proclamation. The concert is free and open to the public.
