RENT on FOX, the live musical event, began its broadcast with the words 'previously recorded' on the screen. Brennin Hunt, who plays Roger Davis in the show, broke his foot during dress rehearsal, which led to the decision that instead of airing live, FOX would broadcast the taped dress rehearsal performance. Unfortunately, this resulted in a show that was not at 100%, however, despite all of the trouble, there were many moments that shined through.

There is truly no day but today when it comes to FOX's Rent, which airs tonight at 8pm. Since it premiered off Broadway in 1996, the musical has earned a special place in the hearts of all those who have encountered Jonathan Larson's powerful message- Rentheads and ordinary theatre-goers alike. In the 23 years since Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece burst onto the scene, its music has made an indelible impression on pop culture, finding a place on the playlists of more that just lovers of Broadway. Most Rentheads could argue the perfection of every one of the 43 tracks from the 1996 cast recording, and yet, it's undeniable that some of them stand out as Larson's greatest creations. The original production of Rent opened over 20 years ago, and skyrocketed its cast to stardom, kickstarting the careers of some of Broadway's now-biggest names. Today we're taking a look at where they are now...

Fox has confirmed that the original Broadway company of RENT will make an appearance during tonight's live broadcast!

In 1989, Jonathan Larson, a 29-year-old composer, began working on a musical adaptation of Puccini's La Boheme. Set amid the late 1980's, early 90's in New York City's East Village the musical would tell the story of a makeshift bohemian family of artists navigating poverty, homelessness, gay life, drug addiction and the AIDS epidemic.

Tonight, FOX will air their third live musical production. Following in the footsteps of Grease and A Christmas Story, the network will be presenting Jonathan Larson's Rent, a rock musical that is loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's 1896 opera, La boheme. The story follows a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City's East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

There are just a few days until the latest batch of bohemians step into the iconic shoes of Jonathan Larson's family of friends in Rent Live. But according to some exciting new social media posts, it seems Broadway's original cast will also take part in the live event.

Aspiring young performers ages 8 and older are invited to register for up to eight different Master Classes taught by professional artists who have performed on the Goodspeed stage, on Broadway and around the country. Classes will include Acting Through Song, Comedy Acting, Vocal Performance, Audition Technique and Musical Theatre Dance among others.

The groundbreaking, Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is a re-imagining of Puccini's 'La Boheme,' and set in New York City's gritty East Village. 'Rent' tells the unforgettable story of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams during a time of great social and political turmoil.

Broadway Across Canada has unveiled their upcoming 2019-2020 Season.  Four theatrical productions take center stage at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium beginning next fall including the spectacular Broadway Musical, DEAR EVAN HANSEN. 

RENT is playing at The Public Theater of San Antonio from January 24th to February 17th, 2019.
