New York City Center President & CEO Arlene Shuler today announced Anne Kauffman as Artistic Director of Encores! Off-Center for the 2019 season. Founding Artistic Director Jeanine Tesori will maintain her relationship with the popular summer series as Creative Advisor - working with Kauffman to curate programming which will conclude City Center's 75th Anniversary Season. Kauffman and Tesori served as Co-Artistic Directors for the 2018 series which included Jason Robert Brown's Songs for A New World, Michael Friedman's Gone Missing, and Micki Grant's Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope.

This past season, NBC aired 'Rise.' The television show spotlighted a high school in a conservative working class neighborhood. The school's new drama teacher, portrayed by Josh Rado, decided rather than staging a traditional, escapist musical, that the students and community would grow from doing 'Spring Awakening,' an exploration of 'young people navigating a world full of pain, frustration, growing up and peopled with not only teens, but adults who often don't have the best intentions.'

In this week's edition, we caught up with Jeff Davis, who directed and choreographed The Gunfighter Meets His Match, running at NYMF through August 4.

SoLuna Studio will produce the Tony Award winning musical SPRING AWAKENING as a part their professional mainstage season, with performances running August 3rd-12th. Acclaimed songwriter Scott Alan will return to Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles, California on July 22, 2018. The 8pm concert will feature special guests from the Broadway stage and Recording World, including Sam Bailey, Shoshana Bean, Chris Mann, Jon Jon Briones, Emma Hunton, and more.

According to Variety, actors Evan Rachel Wood (Across the Universe) and Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) are currently in talks to visit the kingdom of Arendelle in the upcoming Disney sequel Frozen 2.

Casting is now complete for the Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of Annie. The new cast members are Roger Bart as Daniel 'Rooster' Hannigan, Kaylin Hedges as Annie, Ali Stroker as 'Star-to-Be,' Amir Talai as Bert Healy, Marlow Barkley as Kate, Amadi Chapata as Pepper, Noe Lynds as July, Rae Martinez as Tessie, Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja as Molly, and Olivia Zenetzis as Duffy.

The series follows ambitious FBI agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) as he struggles to comprehend incarcerated killers, so that he might use this knowledge to catch others. He's teamed with experienced agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) in the Behavioral Science Unit and will work with his sometimes reluctant partner to find new methods of investigation. Together they will meet some of America's gravest killers, including Edmund Kemper (played by a mesmerizing Cameron Britton) – and face the cynicism and scorn of the tradition-bound hierarchy of the 1970s' Federal Bureau of Investigation. Ford will risk empathizing with 'evil' in order to save lives. But, as Tench says, when arguing the case for their work: “How do we get ahead of crazy if we don't know how crazy thinks?”

Tony Award-winning Broadway and television star Sutton Foster will headline Westport Country Playhouse's 2018 Gala on Saturday evening, September 8, performing Broadway standards with a trio of musicians. "Sutton effectively stops whatever Broadway show she's in with her amazing combination of talents in dance, song, and a wicked sense of humor," said Mark Lamos, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director. "She's a dazzling throwback to the great Broadway stars of yesteryear."

Encores! Off-Center Co-Artistic Directors Anne Kauffman and Jeanine Tesori today announced casting for New York City Center's popular summer musical theater series Encores! Off-Center.

It has just been announced that stars Ana Gasteyer as ("Miss Hannigan') and Megan Hilty ("Lily St. Regis.") have joined the cast of the upcoming Hollywood Bowl production of ANNIE, which will take place Friday, July 27, at 8 pm, Saturday, July 28, at 8 pm, and Sunday, July 29, at 7:30 pm.
