Trisha Brown Retrospective to Dance Into UW World Series, 2/4-6

Washington State native Trisha Brown is considered the most widely acclaimed choreographer of the postmodern era. For over 50 years, she pushed the limits of choreographic movement, changing modern dance forever. At 79, Trisha Brown has choreographed her last dances. In celebration of her life's work, Trisha Brown Dance Company returns to the choreographer's home state to perform the final performances of her works for the proscenium stage as part of a retrospective presented by University of Washington's World Series at Meany Hall.

League of American Orchestras Announces Commissions for Female Composers

Andreia Pinto-Correia and Xi Wang have been selected to receive orchestral commissions of $15,000 each as part of the League of American Orchestras' Women Composers Readings and Commissions program, administered with the American Composers Orchestra and EarShot and supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Partner orchestras to premiere the works will be announced at a later date.

Stephen Schnetzer has accomplished something very few actors can claim: he can get a favorable review from the notoriously hard to please critic John Simon. Schnetzer won a Soap Opera Digest award for Outstanding Comic Performance by an Actor (Daytime) for his work on Another World and has received numerous nominations for his acting. He has also appeared on Homeland, Forever, The Wire, The Following, The Blacklist, Damages, Law & Order, and other television shows. Theatre credits include The Goat or Who Is Sylvia?, Awake and Sing, Tribes, A Talent For Murder, Filumena, The Incomparable Max, and other plays. Schnetzer will soon appear at the Westport Country Playhouse in Arthur Miller's play, Broken Glass, and BroadwayWorld wanted to know more about him.

On Friday, October 30, 2015 from 6:00PM to 7:00PM, Madison Square Park Conservancy will host Luminous Mischief, a free, public performance under artist Teresita Fernandez's Fata Morgana. Fernandez welcomes internationally acclaimed choreographer Stephen Petronio and his company of nine dancers to activate the space of public art with an array of interactions between a citywide assembly of performers and passersby in the Park. Luminous Mischief invites open-ended, free form dance practices into a dynamic public space, blending the power of spontaneous play and the cinematic reflections of pedestrian activity that flicker across Fernandez's artwork. The event will be accompanied by a musical sound score executed by a similarly assembled brass orchestra.

Beginning its 42nd season, Theatre for Young America is offering an varied season of plays:: two Kansas City premieres; a world premiere; some traditional favorites; and a Halloween night-time presentation. The 2015-16 season begins with a Siamese cat's imaginative excursion to Mexico, and ends with a boy's magical encounter with a giant. Six of the presentations are based directly upon children's literature. The season runs from October 13, 2015 through June 24, 2016. All productions will be presented on the H&R Block City Stage, located on level B in Union Station Kansas City. Union Station is located at 30 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri.

The panelists will include Greg Grandin, Morgan Jenness, and Michael Ratner.
