LA Children's Chorus Holds Winter Concert, 12/12

The Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC) goes global at its annual Winter Concert with a program spotlighting the choral music of 20 composers from 10 nations spanning 5 centuries, on Sunday, December 5, 7 p.m, and Sunday, December 12, 2010, 7 p.m., at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. The 'musical tour' includes a Buddhist prayer sung in Japanese, Italian art songs, and a Czech piece based on a Moravian folksong, as well as works by J.S. Bach, Benjamin Britten, John Rutter, Omar Macha and Gustav Holst, and contemporary composers Ruth Watson Henderson, Nicholas Nicassio, Mark Sirett and Brian Holmes, and others. Punctuated with plenty of holiday spirit as well, the Winter Concert is part of the renowned choir's year-long 25th Anniversary celebration, commemorating LACC's commitment to educating young people in the choral arts and creating glorious music for audiences around the world.

Young Men's Ensemble Director Dr. Steven Kronauer moderates the conversation, during which Heppner, currently featured in the title role of LA Opera's production of Lohengrin, will discuss his career in general, as well as his singing techniques, his voice change during adolescence, and how he trained during that period of his life. He will also answer questions from the audience.

Richard Dreyfuss Leads Culture Project's IMAGINING HESCHEL, Closes 11/28

Culture Project (Allan Buchman, Artistic Director) will present the world premiere of Imagining Heschel, a new play by Colin Greer, directed by Larry Moss, who was last represented Off-Broadway by his acclaimed production of Syringa Tree. The two-character play will feature actors Richard Dreyfuss and Rinde Eckert. Performances begin at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street, NYC) on Thursday, November 4th, 2010, and continue through Sunday, November 28th, 2010, for 20 performances only. Anne-Sophie Mutter Begins Residency with New York Philharmonic 11/14

Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter joins the New York Philharmonic in the 2010-11 season as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence. In this role she will perform three concerts with the Orchestra, conducted by Alan Gilbert, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Michael Francis (in his Philharmonic debut); two chamber concerts - with violist Yuri Bashmet and cellist Lynn Harrell in the first - and double bass player Roman Patkoló and Philharmonic musicians in the second; and a recital with her long-time collaborator, pianist Lambert Orkis. Ms. Mutter's programs will reflect a mix of eras, offering established violin repertoire alongside new works.
