San Diego Repertory Theatre presents OUTSIDE MULLINGAR by John Patrick Shanley, the fourth production of its 40th Anniversary Season. REP Associate Artistic Director Todd Salovey directs his first production of the season, tackling Pulitzer, Tony and Oscar-winner Shanley's not-so-average romantic comedy set in Ireland. The show's run begins Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 and runs through Valentine's Day on Feb. 14, 2016 with an opening night on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Lyceum Space Theatre at San Diego REP. The set for Theatre Memphis' Next Stage production of John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize-winning DOUBT impresses with its austerity: The walls and doors are of rich,dark wood; the red leather chair behind the principal's desk and the furniture in the room are carefully arranged; everything seems compartmentalized. Moreover, St. Nicholas School is in the apparently firm hands of 'Sister Aloysius' (yes, it rhymes with 'suspicious'), and wary she is. The time is the early 1960's, shortly after the unsettling assassination of President John F. Kennedy. St. Nicholas has accepted its first black student, 'Donald Muller,' a lonely and isolated thirteen-year old altar boy of 'the new priest on the block,' 'Father Flynn,' who, with his tweaking of tradition and progressive inclination have made him a threat to Aloysius' tightly run ship. As Bob Dylan famously sang, 'The times they are a-changin' -- but, as far as the straight-backed, bespectacled principal is concerned, 'not at THIS school.' For Aloysius, art and music classes are a perfect waste of time; at first glance, she is a stereotypical 'old school' nun. However, Pulitzer Prizes are not awarded to writers who resort to stereotype, and Mr. Shanley's script is tight, subtle, and full of surprises.

Tangent Theatre Company and AboutFACE Ireland have made the final selections for their 5th NEWvember New Plays Festival -- a showcase of original plays by emerging playwrights to be held at the Carpenter Shop Theater, Tangent's 50-seat performance space in the center of Tivoli.

Ronnie Marmo has signed on to direct the West Coast Premiere of the holiday production of WHO KILLED SANTA? by playwright Neil Haven, at Theatre 68 at NoHo Arts Center. This will be Marmo's third musical premiere, which is slated to open on December 4th, 2015.

It was 20 years ago when Sarah Jessica Parker starred Off-Broadway in A.R. Gurney's off-beat comedy about a man and his dog, SLYVIA. Just last night her hubby Matthew Broderick had the honor of opening in SLYVIA on Broadway, joined by Annaleigh Ashford as Sylvia, with Julie White and Robert Sella. The Deep Dish Theater Company has announced the schedule for the final four performances of its acclaimed repertory productions of Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley and Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.
