FirstWorks, a Rhode Island non-profit dedicated to building community through world-class arts announces the New England premiere of 'Some Favored Nook,' a song cycle featuring an original composition by Providence-based composer Eric Nathan. The work is based on the historic 24-year correspondence between poet Emily Dickinson and Thomas Wentworth Higginson; an essayist, abolitionist, women's rights advocate, Colonel of the first black regiment during the Civil War, and who notably was instrumental in publishing the first collection of Dickinson's poetry after her death.

Gloria McLean, President of the American Dance Guild, announced today the lineup for ADG Festival 2018, Visions Then and Now. Honors to choreographic luminaries Jane Comfort and the late Eleo Pomare will complement four days of performances by 34 multi-generational artists from across the United States. The Festival will take place October 25 through October 28 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, 405 West 55th Street, in New York City.

'I am more than the color of my skin.' 'Gender rules don't matter.' 'Self-hate is just as dangerous as any other.' 'Where you're from shouldn't change how people treat you.' Nearly 3,300 Northeast Ohio 6-12th graders recently submitted these and other reflections on intolerance as part of the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage annual Stop the Hate Youth Speak Out competition. Each student shared his or her experiences and ideas for effecting positive change in a 500-word essay. 'It's not just about students recognizing and evaluating instances of discrimination in their own lives,' explains Jeffery Allen, Maltz Museum Director of Education. 'We encourage them to recognize they have agency and a voice. We want them to see the role they can play in creating a more inclusive future.'
