The smash-hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT presented 'American Idiot Gives Back', a day of special performances on Thursday, December 16 to benefit Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS. Free and open to the general public, the show's stars John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands and Michael Esper will play a different selection of their Green Day favorites, Holiday classics and songs from AMERICAN IDIOT at each NYC location. The New York Times will hold its 10th annual Arts & Leisure Weekend on Jan. 6 to 9, 2011. The Times's signature event is a four-day celebration of the arts featuring TimesTalks interviews between New York Times journalists and celebrated guests from film, media, music, television and theater.
The producers of the critically acclaimed AMERICAN IDIOT announced today that Green Day frontman and the musical's composer and co-author Billie Joe Armstrong will return to the role of 'St. Jimmy' for 50 performances beginning on January 1, 2011. Armstrong made a triumphant Broadway debut in a one week engagement last September and played to sold-out houses at the St. James Theatre, 246 West 44 Street.
This Chicagoan goes to New York over a winter's weekend to check out 'The Radio City Christmas Spectacular,' 'American Idiot,' 'The Phantom of the Opera,' and first preview of 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.'
Last night, September 28, Green Day frontman and the musical's composer/ co-author Billie Joe Armstrong made his Broadway debut as 'St. Jimmy' at the St. James Theatre in AMERICAN IDIOT. Armstrong will perform through Sunday, October 3, 2010. Immediately following this engagement, Mr. Armstrong will join Green Day in Caracas, Venezuela on October 8, 2010 to kick off their South American Tour. Last night, September 13, the cast of AMERICAN IDIOT joined Green Day onstage for the halftime show of the NY Jets game at the New Meadowlands Stadium, performing a rendition of Green Day's Last Of The American Girls. The performance, which was cut short by ESPN, was aired in full on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. Click below to watch the halftime show!
The best of Broadway was presented free on six consecutive Thursdays this summer with '106.7 Lite fm Presents Broadway in Bryant Park 2010' - a lunchtime series which began on Thursday, July 8th at 12:30pm on the Bryant Park Stage and ended yesterday, August 12. The series, which just completed its 10 season, was sponsored by Bank of America and JCPenney 33rd & 6th, and washosted by Lite fm's on-air personalities.
Tony Award-winning actress Bebe Neuwirth delighted students as their special surprise guest during the Broadway Artists Alliance 2010 Summer Intensive (Session One). Ms. Neuwirth (currently starring in The Addams Family) lent her talents for a surprise Q&A with the students of Broadway Artists Alliance, ages 10-21. The Q&A was led by the hilarious Seth Rudetsky.
Tony Award-winning actress Katie Finneran delighted students as their special surprise guest during the Broadway Artists Alliance 2010 Summer Workshop.
On Thursday, July 29th, Tony nominee Stark Sands from AMERICAN IDIOT visits MyFOX's Good Day New York. He talks about the show, his name, and meeting his future wife on a New Year's trip to England. Sands, who was nominated in 2007 for his role in JOURNEY'S END, plays Tunny in the Green Day musical.
Last night, July 25, the cast of American Idiot took the stage at Joe's Pub to benefit Broadway Impact and their continued efforts to fight for marriage equality. The monthly concert features cast members from various Broadway shows, highlighting the show's performers and the theatre community's commitment to equality. The first sold out show featured the cast of Next to Normal and on August 23rd the cast of Memphis will take the stage for the final installment. 100% of the proceeds go directly to Broadway Impact.
