Red Bull Theater presents the first-ever Off Broadway revival of Loot by Joe Orton. The Sarasota Culture Collective (SCC) will kick off its new season with a special event at the Sarasota Opera House on Saturday, October 19, 7 - 9 p.m. The cocktail reception will include an open bar, light bites, and performances by the Sarasota Opera and Sarasota Ballet. Playwright Joe Orton's writing career was brief, ending abruptly when he was bludgeoned to death in 1967. In a very short span he wrote a handful of plays that are still being performed to this day, and one wonders what he would have created if he'd lived longer. You can catch one of his early plays at HotCity Theatre as they are currently presenting his darkly cynical work ENTERTAINING MR. SLOANE. A fine cast does a splendid job of bringing these peculiar characters to life.

To kick off its third production of the season, 'Loot' by Joe Orton, Westport Country Playhouse will host a free film screening of 'Prick Up Your Ears,' the 1987 film adaptation of Orton's biography, starring Gary Oldman, Alfred Molina, and Vanessa Redgrave, and directed by Stephen Frears, today, July 14, 4 p.m., in The Playhouse's Sheffer Studio.

Westport Country Playhouse hosted an unveiling of a portrait of the late actor Jason Robards, for whom the theater is named, on Tuesday, July 9. The portrait depicts Robards in the role of Cornelius Melody in 'A Touch of the Poet' by Eugene O'Neill. Donated to the Playhouse by Robards's children, Jake and Shannon, it is displayed in the Playhouse lobby. The portrait artist is Clyde Smith of Silvermine Arts Center.
