Guthrie Theatre Kicks Off Play Care Partnership with YMCA Today with TAMING OF THE SHREW

The Guthrie, in partnership with the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, today announced Play Care, a new program offering discounted adult theater tickets and affordable child care onsite at the Guthrie during select Today matinees in the 2012-2013 season.

The Guthrie Theater will host the 14th annual Shakespeare Classic on Sunday, March 24, offering young people ages 10 to 17 an opportunity to experience an energetic, original Twelfth Night by Britain's Propeller. This annual event, tailored specifically for young audiences, features a specially prepared play program, $10 tickets to the 1 p.m. matinee performance and a post-play discussion in which actors from the show will engage with the audience.

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its world premiere of the bittersweet romance The Primrose Path by Crispin Whittell based upon the novel Home of the Gentry by Ivan Turgenev. The production will be directed by Roger Rees and will feature actors Kyle Fabel (Broadway: The Farnsworth Invention; Off-Broadway: A Free Man of Color) as Theodore Lavretsky, Suzy Kohane (Acadia Repertory Theatre; University of Minnesota/Guthrie BFA Actor Training Program) as Liza and Sally Wingert (Broadway/West End, London: La Bete; Guthrie: Other Desert Cities, Appomattox) as Maria.

NCTF Announces Chairman's Awards Gala Honoring Vanessa Williams

On Monday, April 29th, at New York City's Pierre Hotel, the National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) will honor Vanessa Williams, American Express and five resident theatres celebrating their 50th anniversary - Actors Theatre of Louisville, Guthrie Theater, Hartford Stage, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Trinity Repertory Company - at NCTF's annual Chairman's Awards Gala. Actor George Takei, star of the Broadway-bound musical Allegiance, emcees the event.

THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS Headed to the Young Vic; Performances to Begin October 18

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Tony Award nominated musical The Scottsboro Boys is headed to the West End's Young Vic (artistic director David Lan), directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman. Performances are slated to begin on October 18.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Will Close the Guthrie Season

The Guthrie today announced that it will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the 1813 publication of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice with a summer production on the Wurtele Thrust Stage. The final show of the Guthrie's own 50th anniversary season, Pride and Prejudice will begin previews on July 6, with an opening night of July 12, and will run through August 31.

The Guthrie Theater's production of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night moves into the final week of its acclaimed run, with the performance of Helen Carey as Mary Tyrone earning accolades for its complexity and sympathetic power. Carey, an actor with an illustrious career spanning a Tony Award nomination, pivotal roles in Guthrie productions, stage credits in New York and the U.K., as well as numerous film and television credits, was termed "superb" in her latest role by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The Guthrie today announced that actor Peter Michael Goetz will be stepping away from subsequent performances of his acclaimed portrayal of James Tyrone in Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night; Goetz will return to his California home in order to attend to a personal matter that requires his immediate attention. Raye Birk will assume the role of James Tyrone for upcoming performances.

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its world premiere of Nice Fish by Mark Rylance and Louis Jenkins, dedicated to Nataasha van Kampen and James Hillman. The production will be directed by Rylance and Claire van Kampen (who also contributes original music) and will feature Rylance as Ron as well as actors Jim Lichtscheidl (Guthrie: Arms and the Man, The 39 Steps) as Eric, Emily Swallow (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Midsummer Night's Dream; Television: the upcoming TNT series "Monday Mornings") as Flo and Chris Carlson (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, God of Carnage) as Wayne in a humorous and mythic story based on Jenkins' prose poetry and taking place on the frozen waters of the Upper Midwest on the last day of ice fishing season. Nice Fish also features Bob Davis (Guthrie: Tales from Hollywood, Arsenic and Old Lace) as DNR Officer and Tyson Forbes (Guthrie: Peer Gynt, 1776) as Wainwright.

The Guthrie Theater continues its 2012-13 season with the British company Propeller's all-male, modern and physical productions of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and The Taming of the Shrew, directed by Propeller artistic director Edward Hall. The two plays, performed in repertory (audiences can choose either show, or both on two different nights), come to the Guthrie as part of Propeller's international tour running through August 2013. Twelfth Night and The Taming of the Shrew begin performances at the Guthrie on February 27, and continue through April 6, 2013. The Acting Company and the Guthrie Theater present a national tour of Shakespeare's As You Like It running from January through April 2013. Rehearsing in New York, performances began at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis on January 13 and will run through February 4 before leaving on a cross country tour to 29 cities in 22 states. It will play at New York's famed New Victory Theater March 1-10. Dan Rothenberg, Artistic Director of Philadelphia's Pig Iron Theatre has directed Shakespeare's lushly lighthearted comedy. A limited number of seats located in a balcony level of the McGuire Proscenium in a section that will not be disruptive to other patrons will be designated as Tweet Seats. Tweet Seat tickets are $15 and are available by calling the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, and mentioning 'Tweet.' Tickets are not available online, with other offers, or on previously purchased tickets. Handing fees may apply.
