Photo Flash: First Look at Antaeus' THE LIAR in New Adaptation by David Ives

Wildly clever and a bit naughty, brimming with wordplay and swordplay, David Ives' English-language adaptation of Pierre Corneille's The Liar is next up at Antaeus. Casey Stangl directs the Los Angeles premiere of this delightfully ingenious and irreverent update of a classic French romp at the Antaeus Theater in NoHo. Antaeus Theater to Present THE LIAR, Begin. 10/3

Wildly clever and a bit naughty, brimming with wordplay and swordplay, David Ives' English-language adaptation of Pierre Corneille's The Liar is next up at Antaeus.Casey Stangl directs the Los Angeles premiere of this delightfully ingenious and irreverent update of a classic French romp. Previews begin Oct. 3, with two opening nights set for Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 at the Antaeus Theater in NoHo.

The Antaeus production highlights the play's universal and timeless themes by staging the play as presentation theater with the actors speaking directly to the audience, rarely to the person onstage to whom they are speaking. It is performed in conservative modern dress on a minimalistic set, making the words ring truer than in any other production of the show I have ever seen.

Starring Crucible co-directors Armin Shimerman ('Quark' onStar Trek: Deep Space Nine, 'Principal Snyder' on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Geoffrey Wade ('Hot Tooth' on Mad Men), the video takes a comedic mockumentary style look behind the scenes of the production, showing the directors bickering, giving actors line readings and eventually even showering together. The Antaeus Company, L.A.'s multiple award-winning classical theater company, takes on William Shakespeare's gripping psychological drama, Macbeth. Jessica Kubzansky directs the fully double-cast production, with Bo Foxworth and Rob Nagle sharing the title role and Tessa Auberjonois and Ann Noble partnering as Lady M. Performances take place tonight, July 12 through August 26. Talk-backs will follow the performance every Thursday night beginning July 19: stay after the performance to ask questions and discuss the play with various cast members.

Antaeus closes its inaugural season with THE AUTUMN GARDEN 10/22-12/19

In a guest house on the Gulf, a hundred miles from New Orleans, old friends gather in a summer home to rediscover connections, rekindle lost relationships, and find peace - only to find that they can't rewrite the stories of their past. The Antaeus Company, L.A.'s classical theater ensemble, presents The Autumn Garden by Lillian Hellman, directed by Larry Biederman. Four gala openings of the fully double-cast production, two with each cast, take place October 28-31, with performances continuing through December 19 at Antaeus' interim home, Deaf West Theatre in the NoHo Arts District. Low-priced previews begin October 22.

The Antaeus Company's The Autumn Garden, Closes 12/19

Following on the heels of its wildly successful production of King Lear, The Antaeus Company will again offer Los Angeles audiences the chance to see two fully double-cast ensembles perform in its upcoming production of The Autumn Garden by Lillian Hellman.
