'Newport Jazz Festival(R): Now 60' Tour to Launch 2/8

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival (August 1-3, 2014), clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, vocalist/pianist Karrin Allyson, bassists Larry Grenadier and Ben Allison, pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Mark Whitfield, trumpeter Randy Brecker, and drummer Clarence Penn embark on the 17-city 'Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60' Tour, February 8 - March 30, 2014, with more dates during June, July and August in North America and Europe.

Daniel Beaty to Star in THE TALLEST TREE IN THE FOREST at Arena Stage, 1/10-2/16

Following the world premiere co-production at Kansas City Repertory Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse, playwright and performer Daniel Beaty brings The Tallest Tree in the Forest to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Beaty, whose work has been seen at Arena Stage as a playwright with his play Resurrection and as a performer in his award-winning solo play Emergency, channels close to 40 characters in The Tallest Tree in the Forest in a "tour de force" (San Diego Reader) performance, giving audiences an intimate look at one of the most dynamic and controversial figures in history-artist and activist Paul Robeson. Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (playwright and director for Broadway's 33 Variations, which received its world premiere at Arena Stage in 2007) directs this music-infused new play that features 14 songs and an onstage band. Developed and produced by Tectonic Theater Project, The Tallest Tree in the Forest runs January 10-February 16, 2014 in the Kreeger Theater and will play the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles following the Arena Stage run.

Jill Scott, Gov't Mule & Disco Biscuits to Play Iconic NYC Venues on New Year's Eve

Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSGE) will welcome three incredible shows to ring in the new year in NYC including Gov't Mule, The Disco Biscuits and Jill Scott. These events will take place at three of New York City's most iconic venues including The Theater at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theatre. These acts will bring their music to a diverse audience in New York City with a varied lineup that will showcase everything from rock to R&B.

Jill Scott Set for Academy of Music's 157th Anniversary Concert and Ball, 1/25

The Philadelphia Orchestra today announced details of its upcoming 157th Academy of Music Anniversary Concert and Ball to be held Saturday, January 25, 2013, beginning at 5:30 PM. Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra welcome special guest artist and Philadelphia hero Jill Scott for this magnificent evening of music, dinner, and dancing in celebration of the Academy of Music, a National Historic Landmark. Three-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, New York Times best-selling poet, and critically acclaimed actress, Jill Scott began her career collaborating with musical icons the Roots, Will Smith, and Common in the late 1990s before releasing her debut record, Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds, Vol. 1 in 2000. The record quickly went double platinum and earned her several Grammy nominations including Best New Artist.

Moises Kaufman Directs Daniel Beaty's THE TALLEST TREE Premiere at La Jolla Playhouse, Now thru 11/3

La Jolla Playhouse announces a fifth production for its 2013/14 season: the world premiere of The Tallest Tree, a new play with music written and performed by Daniel Beaty (Emergency, Through the Night), directed by Moises Kaufman (I Am My Own Wife, The Laramie Project). A co-production with Kansas City Repertory Theatre, The Tallest Tree will run in The Playhouse's Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre tonight, October 9 - November 3, 2013. The piece is produced in association with Tectonic Theater Project.

After studying classical music with the Metropolitan Opera as a child, Deena Sydney chose to continue her training in Musical Theater. She recently got her BFA from NYU's Tisch school of the Arts and has been actively pursuing a career as an actress/singer. She can most recently be seen in Verizon's Get There commercial with Jill Scott.

The United Tenors join forces with special guest Pastor Alyn E. Waller of ENON Tabernacle Baptist Church for one exclusive Philadelphia performance blending R&B and Gospel sounds in the KimMel Center's Verizon Hall tonight, September 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Theater for a New Generation Presents FREEFALL at the Drilling Company, Now thru 9/28

Theater for a New Generation will present 'Freefall' by the highly celebrated Chicago playwright Charles Smith, directed by Mel Williams, at The Drilling Company Theatre, 238 West 78th Street, tonight, September 11 to 28. The play is a drama of two brothers who grew up in inner-city Chicago and have followed divergent paths into adulthood: one as a thief, the other as a policeman.

Moises Kaufman to Direct Daniel Beaty's THE TALLEST TREE IN THE FOREST at Kansas City Rep, 9/6-28

The world premiere of The Tallest Tree in the Forest, a new work about the life of African-American performer and activist Paul Robeson, written and performed by Daniel Beaty and directed by Moises Kaufman, opens Friday, September 6 at Kansas City Repertory Theatre. The show runs through September 28 at the Rep's downtown theatre Copaken Stage, 13th and Walnut Streets.

Kansas City Rep Opens 2013-14 Season with THE TALLEST TREE IN THE FOREST Tonight

Kansas City Repertory Theatre will kick off its 2013-14 season with the world premiere of The Tallest Tree in the Forest, a new work about the life of African-American performer and activist Paul Robeson, written and performed by Daniel Beaty and directed by Moises Kaufman. The show runs tonight, August 30-September 28 at the Rep's downtown theatre Copaken Stage, 13th and Walnut Streets. The Tallest Tree in the Forest is a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse.
