The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce internationally-renowned jazz artist and educator Anthony Tidd will move forward as the Kimmel Center's Jazz Artistic Advisor, acting as an expert consultant and vital resource for all matters involving jazz on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus. Longtime curator of both Sittin' In and the Education Department's Creative Music Program for Jazz, Tidd will bring 20+ years of expertise as a performer, producer, and teacher to both programmatic and educational activities.

Tidd will plan future jazz and R&B initiatives, and he will act as a Kimmel Center representative for all regional jazz partnerships. He will provide support for the Jazz Residency program and develop performances specifically for the Kimmel Center's blackbox theater, the SEI Innovation Studio.

"We have been blessed to have Anthony as part of our Kimmel Center Cultural Campus staff for seven years," said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. "His experience working as a professional musician and producer and his presence directing jazz-based education initiatives at the Kimmel Center have made him a vital asset, and we are excited to see where his new role as Jazz Artistic Advisor takes us."

"I am extremely excited to be serving in my new role as Jazz Artistic Advisor," said Anthony Tidd. "In this new role I hope to further strengthen the Kimmel Center's future jazz offerings and overall impact here in the Philadelphia community."

Originally from England, Tidd studied at various institutions throughout London, including Goldsmiths University, Newham Academy of Music, and Guild Hall. A bass player, Tidd has collaborated with international artists such as Steve Coleman, Frank Ocean, Wayne Krantz, Jill Scott, David Byrne, Vijay Iyer, and Greg Osby. He has recorded and composed for bands, ensembles, and orchestras, and worked as a producer with international recording artists like Lady Gaga, Fergie, The Roots, Pink, The Black Eyed Peas, Zap Mama, Ursula Rucker, and more.

Tidd's new role as Jazz Artistic Advisor will work concurrently with the major programs he has led for many years, including:

Sittin' In, the Center's free, monthly jam session; the Creative Music Program for Jazz, a program operating on the academic calendar that connects teenagers with master classes, teaching artists, and builds their knowledge of the jazz art form; Jazz Camp of Philadelphia, a two week camp for students to learn about jazz repertoire, performance, and skills alongside professional musicians; and Meet the Masters, a pre-concert lesson between Sittin' In artists and local students that allows for Q&As and jam sessions.
