New Houston Cinema Arts Society Announces New Artistic Director

Houston Cinema Arts Society has announced that Jessica Green will assume the role of Artistic Director for the 10-year old Houston Cinema Arts Festival the multi-venue film and arts festival anchored by Museum of Fine Arts Houston that has the distinction of being the only U.S. film festival devoted to films by and about visual, performing, and literary artists. Green will replace outgoing Artistic Director Richard Herskowitz as programmer-in-chief for the acclaimed festival starting with the 11th annual 5-day festival taking place November 14 18, 2019 in addition to special film engagements throughout the calendar year.

Kentucky Shakespeare announces the 2019 SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARKS tour. Their 6-actor, 90-minute production of MACBETH will tour to 28 parks in Louisville, Indiana, and other Kentucky cities this spring, bringing free Shakespeare to neighborhoods April 6-May 25, 2019.

The Red Lotus is an official selection at The Awareness Festival. The Red Lotus is a narrative 19min short film with a bone chilling story. Two sisters go away for a weekend to strengthen their relationship and uncover a secret that will bind them for life. Set in a world much like today, The Red Lotus is a tale of strength, women's rights, sisterhood, and the human spirit. Michelle drags her sister Debbie to a yoga retreat only to reveal that there is something much bigger than Vinyasa going on. In her traditional storytelling style, Shara interviewed many women who have had abortions for the source material that inspired the film.
