Cave Theatre Company to Present GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES at UNDER St. Marks, 4/7-17

FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade will present a Cave Theatre Company production of Rajiv Joseph's Gruesome Playground Injuries, directed by James Masciovecchio. The show will run April 7-17 at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A) with performances Thursday through Sunday at 8pm. Tickets ($17) may be purchased in advance at www.horseTRADE.info. The show runs approximately 85 minutes, with no intermission. 

Playco Announces THE WILDNESS Idea Lab Programming

The Play Company's (PlayCo) Idea Lab series complements the productions in their 2016 season by bringing together artists, scholars, writers and community leaders for stand-alone events to examine themes raised in the shows. Following performances of the world premiere of The Wildness, a co-produced with Ars Nova, Playco will present three post show events over three Thursdays, March 3, 10 & 17.

SELKIE Makes World Premiere at Z Space Tonight

Weathervane Productions and Rising Phoenix Repertory are pleased to present the world premiere of SELKIE, or When I Look at the Ocean, I Feel Like I Belong, a new play inspired by Selkie mythology, written by Sarah Shaefer.

Cave Theatre Co. to Bring Toni Press-Coffman's TOUCH to UNDER St. Marks

FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade will present Cave Theatre Company's production of Toni Press-Coffman's Touch, directed by James Masciovecchio. The show will run January 14-24 at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A) with performances Thursday through Sunday at 8pm. Tickets ($17)may be purchased in advance at www.horseTRADE.info. The show runs approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, with intermission. 

Echo Theater Company Sets 2016 Season

The new season will feature the Los Angeles premiere of Dry Land by Susan Blackburn Prize finalist Ruby Rae Spiegel, and four world premieres by Los Angeles-based playwrights including BED by Sheila Callaghan; Captain of the Bible Quiz Team by Tom Jacobson; One of the Nice Ones by Erik Patterson; and Blueberry Toast by Mary Laws.

Illusion Theater Receives 'Outstanding Theater' Award

The National Theatre Conference (NTC), an organization founded in 1925 that meets annually in New York to discuss relevant issues in today's theatre community and to celebrate outstanding achievement in the American theatre, has named the recipients of its 2015 awards. HowlRound Director Polly Carl has been named Person of the Year; the Illusion Theater in Minneapolis, under its co-producing directors Michael Robins and Bonnie Morris, is the recipient of the Outstanding Theatre Award; and playwright Jessica Dickey has been selected as the winner of the Barrie and Bernice Stavis Playwright Award. All three will be honored and presented with their awards and hold discussions with the membership at The Players club during NTC's annual meeting in New York, December 4-6, 2015.

Peter Gallagher Joins PLAYING ON AIR Benefit This Month at BRIC

Public radio show and podcast PLAYING ON AIR, which features live recordings of short American plays, returns to BRIC House (647 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn) on December 7 at 7:30pm with three shorts by David Auburn, Max Baker and Jessica Dickey, all recorded live. And the show just announced the addition of award-winning actor Peter Gallagher ('American Beauty,' TV's 'The O.C.') to its impressive roster of talent performing at their annual benefit for the organization.

City Theatre Welcomes Playwright Mat Smart for Residency, Beginning Today

? City Theatre is excited to welcome playwright Mat Smart for a writing residency November 17-19, 2015. The residency will be tailored to Smart's individual creative needs and offer him full use of City Theatre's resources, a developmental reading with local actors, and artistic support from Director of New Play Development Clare Drobot and Artistic Director Tracy Brigden. Fulfilling its mission that emphasizes new play development, City Theatre also commissions works by diverse writers and produces world premiere productions, including this season's Some Brighter Distance by Keith Reddin, which will run January 23-February 14, 2016. City Theatre hosts an annual festival of new plays at different stages of development called Momentum, which will take place June 2-5, 2016.

City Theatre gets festive with A BROADWAY HOLIDAY, a one-night-only concert featuring performances by award-winning Broadway stars Billy Porter and Anthony Rapp. With local talents Maria Becoates-Bey, Daina Michelle Griffith, and Billy Hartung, the special performance will include hit Broadway songs as well as a variety of holiday favorites.

Bleeding Heart Theatre to Present THE AMISH PROJECT Next Month

A brilliant meditation on radical kindness. When faced with the most terrible of atrocities, what do you do? For most of us, the first instinct is for justice, or even revenge. For the Amish of Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, however, the response to a shooting in their schoolhouse was forgiveness. Jessica Dickey's THE AMISH PROJECT, a Bleeding Heard Theatre production presented in association with Pacific Theatre, is a fictional exploration of the real-life shooting in an Amish school in Nickel Mines, and the instant forgiveness offered by the affected community to the gunman and his family.

The series will comprise four productions over the next few months touching on the themes of social justice. Each performance will be followed by a discussion with an expert in the topic.
