Wrapping up the wildly successful 42nd Season of Dunwoody's very own professional theatre, STAGE DOOR PLAYERS produces the musical comedy, "show within a show", Kiss Me, Kate, music and lyrics by Cole Porter, book by Sam and Bella Spewack. Alan Kilpatrick directs, Nick Silvestri is the music director, and Jen MacQueen choreographs. The show opens on Friday, July 15, and runs through Sunday, August 7. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8pm (except, no performance on Thursday, July 21), and Sundays at 2:30pm. The Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival is thrilled to announce the selections for the inaugural Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival (AMTF), which will be held August 1 and 2, 2016, at Actor's Express and Synchronicity Theatre. The AMTF will be two days and nights of original musical theatre performances by local artists, as well as showcase performances of professional productions and educational groups. Performances will be open to the artistic community, the public, and the press. More than twenty submissions were accepted and four shows have been selected for the inaugural event. Tickets are $27.50 for a single event to $80 for a full festival pass (including all taxes and fees), and are on sale now at ActorsExpress.com.

Synchronicity Theatre presents THE LAST TIME WE WERE HERE, a new folk-rock musical, by Jeremiah Parker Hobbs and Jessica De Maria. This special event runs for one weekend only, June 17-19 at Synchronicity Theatre in Midtown Atlanta. Performances are at 8pm Friday and Saturday and 5pm Sunday.

Actor's Express announces its 29th Season including two Tony Award winners and three Atlanta premieres. The season opens July 30 with a modern take on Stephen Sondheim's game-changing musical Company directed by Actor's Express Artistic Director Freddie Ashley (Sweeney Todd, Rent). In the fall, Actor's Express will produce the Atlanta premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' raucous dark comedy Appropriate, a standout at the 2013 Humana Festival of New American Plays. A visceral new production of Arthur Miller's classic American drama The Crucible kicks off 2017 followed by the Atlanta premiere of The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, a music-filled comedy about an Elvis impersonator turned drag queen. The season will close with the Pulitzer Prize finalist Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3), Suzan-Lori Parks' epic trilogy about a slave's journey to freedom during the Civil War.

The Theatrical Outfit's '15-'16 Season of Courage concludes with the heart-stopping, romantic musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, running now through May 15, 2016 at The Balzer Theater at Herren's (downtown Atlanta). Guest announcers included the ladies of The Weird Sisters Theatre Project: Kelly Criss, Veronika Duerr, Jaclyn Hofmann, Tiffany Porter, and Megan Rose.

Now, Atlanta's only professional musical theatre, the Atlanta Lyric Theatre, is producing Pasek and Paul's first show, EDGES. Written after the pair was disappointed by casting decisions at Michigan, the show speaks to the yearning, the excitement, and the fear that often overwhelmes individuals as they transition into adulthood.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) recently announced its full lineup of productions, readings, and concerts for NYMF 2015. From today, July 7, to July 27, NYMF 2015 will present almost two dozen productions of new musicals, including the newly announced Passing By and Summer Valley Fair. In addition, NYMF 2015 will also feature staged readings and the debut of brand new concerts.
